Job Purpose

The Safety-Care Coordinator (SCC) is responsible for managing initial certifications and overseeing the annual recertification process for staff across Lexington, Lynchburg, and Roanoke. In addition to planning and coordinating training sessions, the SCC will conduct Safety-Care trainings and provide on-site coaching and support during crisis situations. This role works closely with fellow trainers and organizational leadership to ensure compliance and maintain quality of Safety-Care implementation throughout the organization.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist with scheduling and coordination of initial certifications and annual recertifications
  • Assist with identifying staff requiring recertification and communicate training details 
  • Facilitate Safety-Care trainings for new hires and current VIA employees
  • Collaborate with other Safety-Care trainers to ensure consistency and high-quality instruction.
  • Develop and maintain rapport with staff, as well as students/clients/participants across each department
  • In collaboration with supervisors, perform observations and performance checklists on identified staff members
  • Provide consistent on-site coaching and support for Southwest region staff by conducting weekly Safety-Care reviews, same day debriefs, and procedural guidance to enhance staff competence and confidence
  • Provide support during crisis management by responding to back-up calls when available, providing in-the-moment coaching and guidance to staff to reinforce the use of correct procedures and build confidence during high-stress situations
  • In collaboration with the Director of Quality Assurance, ensure compliance with organizational policy for documentation pertaining to injuries and the use of physical management 
  • In collaboration with the Director of Quality Assurance, ensure compliance with organizational policy for the use of safety-equipment
  • Upon request, provide consultation which would include observation, evaluation and recommendation(s)
  • In collaboration with the Director of Quality Assurance, monitor the frequency of serious incidents and the use of physical management
  • Participate in and assist with the development of additional trainings to meet the needs of students/clients/consumers
  • Complete and submit training records to VIA’s Senior Staff Accountant in a timely manner
  • Within two weeks of each training's conclusion, accurately complete all required documentation and enter training records for sessions held in Lexington, Lynchburg, and Roanoke into the QBS training database.
  • Assist with the organization of training materials, as well as the inventory of current supplies (e.g., matts, blocking pads) 
  • Serve as the Administrator on Call (AOC) when on-site leadership is unavailable, providing general oversight, support, and decision-making as needed.
  • Assist with scheduling and facilitating meetings with Safety-Care trainers
  • Serve as a point of contact with QBS to obtain clarification on procedures, compliance standards, and seek recommendations as needed
  • Travel regularly to various program sites, across all VIA cities (Charlottesville, Lexington, Lynchburg, and Roanoke) to deliver trainings and provide on-site support as needed

Position Type & Supervision

This position is a full time position. 


Requirements

  

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalency required
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Experience in the application of applied behavior analysis (ABA) in the education of individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities is preferred
  • Two years of experience as a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) 
  • Current Safety-Care Trainer certification
  • Valid driver’s license
