Safety Coordinator - Urgent Position

EHS Coordinator

Summary: The Environmental, Health and Safety Coordinator will promote, coordinate, and maintain all Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) programs for manufacturing and warehouse facilities. Ensures EHS programs adhere to all regulatory requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following, other duties may be assigned.

• Updates and maintains all EHS files, records, and training materials.
• Ensures compliance with Federal, State and Local safety and Environmental regulations.
• Develops EHS policies, procedures, campaigns, communications, recognition, and training.
• Prepares and tracks safety performance metrics for assigned areas and provides recommendations for continual improvement. Participate in detailed Incident Investigations and Root Cause Analysis.
• Verify that hazardous, special, and universal waste containers have proper stickers, that it is disposed of properly, within all EPA guidelines and that all waste manifests are properly completed and signed.
• Perform quarterly storm water inspection of each building. Walk all perimeters and roof tops to complete inspections of each building.
• Provide information and training in emergency response procedures, environmental, hazardous material handling, and industrial hygiene policies.
• Coordinate chemical approval process and chemical SDS inventory audits.
• Assist in conducting compliance reviews, general risk assessments and other safety assessments to support Health, Safety and Environmental management.
• Inspect facilities, machinery, and safety equipment to identify and correct potential hazards, and to ensure safety regulation compliance by developing Job Safety Analysis.
• Provide comprehensive Ergonomic assistance and support to the Ergonomics Program which includes intake and tracking of occupational ergonomic cases, and performing ergonomic assessments.
• Complete and submit annual Flammable, Volatile, Explosive and Corrosive (FVEC) chemicals list, by building, for the Palatine campus and Huntley manufacturing. Once reviewed by our environmental consulting firm these reports are filed with the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago (MWRD).
• Compile the necessary documentation for the annual Air Emissions Report (AER) for Palatine and Huntley. Once completed by our environmental consulting firm these reports are filed with the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA).
• Coordinate our semi-annual water sampling at the Palatine campus with our environmental consulting firm. Once the reports and test data are compiled, Continued Compliance Report RD-115) needs to be filed with the MWRD.
• Perform monthly storm water inspection of the buildings and grounds of the Palatine campus and Huntley manufacturing
• Compile the necessary documentation in November and December of each year for our annual User Charge report (RD-925) that is filed with the MWRD with appropriate payments (if necessary). Reference Compliance Calendar for filing deadline.
• Complete and submit the necessary documentation in May and June of each year for our annual Toxic Chemical Release Inventory Report SARA Title III § 313. Enter the required filing information on the Federal government’s web based SARA Title III reporting site. The report will then be confirmed / released online by the Manager or Director of Regulatory Affairs. Reference Compliance Calendar for filing deadline.
• Schedule waste oil pick-ups with our liquid waste hauler at the request of the different department managers at all locations making sure that the manifests are recorded properly. Once the waste is remediated a completed manifest will be returned to us. The completed manifest must be matched by manifest number to the manifest that we are holding until the waste is remediated. The completed manifests must be filed.
• Coordinate annual manifest training for all affected employees with our environmental consulting firm.
• Conducts annual safety orientations for all union and non-union employees. Verifies that orientations are up to date and compliant with regulations. Audit temporary employee orientations conducted through their temp agencies.
• Assists in coordinating annul hearing conservation program and respiratory protection program with affected employees.
• Certify/Evaluate powered industrial truck operators and aerial work platform operators.
• Maintains individual workers comp case files and documentation. Advises management and safety team of changes, updates and modified duty assignments.
• Identifies potential causes for accidents and evaluates incidents for trend identification.
• Facilitates/participates in Safety Committee meetings and activities. Publishes meeting minutes.
• Coordinates annual Lock Out Tag Out, Confined Space, Bloodborne Pathogens and Crane trainings.
• Audits departments for safety compliance. Reports deficiencies to area management

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
