Position Overview

Nikkiso Clean Energy and Industrial Gases (NCEIG) is looking for a mid-level Safety, Health, and Environmental (SHE) Specialist to support the ICS Facility in Escondido, California. This is an onsite, full-time. The role focuses on practical execution, developing procedures, and providing daily SHE support for site operations.

 

The successful candidate will be a visible, hands-on resource who collaborates effectively with site staff and supervisors and demonstrates strong skills in writing and implementing procedures. The temp-to-hire approach allows for confirmation of technical skills, execution ability, and cultural fit before transitioning to full-time employment.









Responsibilities






Key Responsibilities

  • Support implementation of site-level SHE programs to mitigate risk to people, property, and the environment.
  • Develop and implement SHE procedures and work instructions aligned with corporate standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain a strong on-the-floor presence, including routine site walks, observations, and employee engagement.
  • Provide EHS technical support across safety, environmental compliance, ergonomics, industrial hygiene, and occupational health topics.
  • Support incident reporting, investigations, and corrective action tracking using Benchmark Gensuite and eCompliance systems.
  • Assist with tracking and reporting SHE performance metrics, including injury/illness data and environmental compliance metrics.
  • Support California hazardous waste compliance in alignment with DTSC (Title 22) requirements and local CUPA oversight, including generator practices, labeling, accumulation areas, inspections, training support, and coordination of manifests/shipments as applicable.
  • Assist with closure of third-party recommendations (e.g., Travelers and other insurers).
  • Support delivery of SHE training, toolbox talks, and employee awareness activities.
  • Maintain working knowledge of applicable Cal/OSHA, EPA, DTSC, SCAQMD, CUPA, stormwater, wastewater, NFPA and local requirements and support site compliance efforts.
  • Collaborate with HR on Workers’ Compensation coordination, employee safety issues, and related programs.








Qualifications






Qualifications (Mid-Level)

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental health & safety, environmental science, engineering, or a related field.
  • 3–7 years of hands-on EHS experience, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Demonstrated experience implementing and revising EHS procedures.
  • Working knowledge of Cal/OSHA regulations, California hazardous waste requirements DTSC, SCAQMD and NFPA.
  • Experience supporting or interfacing with CUPA inspections and programs (e.g., hazardous waste, CERS/HMBP).
  • Experience using electronic EHS management systems for incident reporting and action tracking.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with hourly employees and the management team.

Preferred:

  • Experience in manufacturing, aerospace, energy, or industrial operations.
  • Familiarity with insurer-driven assessments.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and execution skills.
  • Ability to balance regulatory compliance with practical, site-appropriate solutions.
