McCall Thomas Engineering Company, Inc. is seeking a Safety Inspector – Substations & Transmission Lines to support client electric utility projects.
As a Safety Inspector for McCall-Thomas, you will join a dedicated team committed to delivering high-quality solutions and services to our clients. In this role, you will oversee compliance, training, and safety initiatives for substations and transmission line projects, with a primary emphasis on contract crews. You will collaborate closely with the Safety Department and Safety Management to ensure all job sites adhere to regulatory requirements, company policies, and project-specific safety standards.
Work reporting location: Moncks Corner, SC
This is a full-time (40 hours/week) position requiring regular travel to job sites (company fleet provided).
The responsibilities for this role include:
- Conduct safety audits and job site inspections for station and transmission line construction projects
- Perform contractor safety observations and document findings during site visits
- Review construction safety plans and project-specific safety documentation prior to and during field work
- Monitor contractor compliance with OSHA, company safety policies, and contractual safety requirements
- Review and investigate incident reports; provide findings and recommendations to the Safety Department
- Contribute to Job Safety Analyses (JSAs/MSAs) and ensure corrective actions are implemented
- Review and evaluate the safety portions of bid packages to ensure compliance before contract award
- Provide on-site safety guidance and instruction to contract crews as needed
- Maintain accurate documentation of audits, observations, incidents, and corrective actions
- Utilize Intelex Safety Software to track inspections, incidents, and compliance metrics
- Prioritize safety initiatives and special safety programs as assigned
- Additional responsibilities as directed by the Safety Manager
What Will You Need:
- Ability to work in the US without sponsorship
- High school diploma or GED
- Experience in construction safety, utility safety, or industrial safety (station and/or transmission line experience preferred)
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations and construction safety standards
- Ability to review and interpret safety plans and construction documentation
- Experience conducting safety audits, inspections, and contractor observations
- Strong documentation and report-writing skills
- Familiarity with Intelex Safety Software or similar safety management systems preferred
- Valid driver’s license, clean driving record, and ability to travel regularly to job sites
- Utility, substation, or transmission line construction experience
- Experience working primarily with contract crews
- Safety certifications (OSHA 10/30, CSP, ASP, or equivalent)
- Experience participating in bid reviews or pre-construction safety evaluations
