Position Overview/Job Description: The Safety Manager is responsible for overseeing and ensuring safety and compliance with all operations within the R&R Family of Companies.
Responsibilities:
Develop, implement, and update company-wide safety policies and programs to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations (e.g., FMCSA, DOT, OSHA).
Create and maintain training programs for drivers, staff, and contractors on safe driving, equipment operation, and emergency response protocols.
Conduct safety audits, risk assessments, and inspections of vehicles, equipment, and facilities.
Ensure all operations adhere to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) standards, and any other applicable local, state, or federal laws.
Stay up to date on changes to safety regulations and implement necessary changes to company practices and policies.
Oversee the maintenance of accurate safety and compliance records, including driver logs, inspection reports, and incident documentation.
Investigate accidents, injuries, and safety incidents to determine root causes and recommend corrective actions.
Prepare and submit detailed accident reports to management, insurance companies, and regulatory authorities as required.
Track and analyze incident trends to develop strategies to reduce or eliminate accidents.
Develop and facilitate ongoing safety training for drivers
Conduct periodic evaluations of drivers' safety performance, including behind-the-wheel assessments and compliance checks.
Provide feedback to drivers on performance, addressing areas for improvement, and recognizing safety achievements.
Promote a culture of safety within the company by encouraging safe driving practices, reporting safety concerns, and addressing safety violations.
Foster open communication with employees regarding safety issues and encourage proactive participation in safety initiatives.
Organize safety meetings and safety awareness programs to keep safety top of mind for all staff.
Analyze company safety data and metrics to identify trends and areas for improvement.
Develop and implement strategies to reduce risk, including vehicle maintenance schedules, safety initiatives, and driver behavior management.
Collaborate with other departments to enhance safety processes, operational efficiency, and compliance.
Oversee and ensure regular maintenance and safety inspections of vehicles and equipment.
Work with the fleet management team to ensure proper maintenance schedules and vehicle repairs are followed.
Ensure that all safety equipment (e.g., fire extinguishers, first aid kits, reflective triangles) is properly maintained and in compliance.
Qualifications:
Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a safety-related role within the trucking, transportation, or logistics industry.
Proven experience managing safety programs, investigations, and regulatory compliance.
Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Occupational Health and Safety Technologist (OHST), or similar certification preferred.
DOT and FMCSA regulatory knowledge is essential.
Strong knowledge of safety regulations and best practices in the trucking industry.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to train, manage, and motivate employees at all levels.
Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
Education Requirements: High school diploma required; furthering education with a degree or certification is preferred.
Salary/Hourly Rate: Depending on experience.
