The Safety Manager is detail-oriented, thorough, and organized. The Safety Manager plays a key role in ensuring all projects comply with local, state, and federal health and safety guidelines and procedures. You will ensure the safety of all employees, make sure all projects and safety protocols & procedures are up to code, and provide advice, recommendations, and solutions for safety improvements.
Responsibilities:
Develop, establish, and maintain a safety program relevant to every facet of Haggerty’s operations
Provide safety support and leadership to Haggerty employees
Provide safe working conditions for all workers, sub-trades and visitors on/around the office and job sites
Enforce all established safety regulations and safe work practices
Recommend disciplinary action when necessary to ensure compliance with the rules
Ensure that trade workers are oriented with the site and its safety regulations.
Excellent recordkeeping abilities – the Safety Manager must maintain meticulous records of all safety related activities
Provide instructions to workers on safe work procedures (i.e. How to use personal protective equipment as appropriate, e.g. hard hats, vests, hearing protection, safety glasses, steel toed boots or other items deemed necessary)
Provide educational training and seminars to Haggerty employees
Provide support and administrative assistance on safety-related compliance projects, safety oversight, document management and safety auditing
Correct physical conditions, which are liable to cause or have caused accidents
Undertake the investigation of accidents, incidents or near misses to determine the underlying causes.
Complete the necessary forms to document these incidents immediately
Maintain and submit OSHA 300 logs as necessary
Maintain a detailed inventory and record tools and safety equipment.
Conduct regular on-site hazard assessments. Identify hazards and unsafe work practices and provide recommendations on how to eliminate issues
Ensure all Hazard Assessments are completed and filed by Trade order.
Provide each employee with information regarding hazards on the job site and how to avoid them.
Ensure Hazard Assessment is completed on all sites for the start of all jobs and the daily
hazard assessment is completed by site Superintendents
Provide jobsite orientations for all new projects and document/maintain proof of orientation, to be kept on site
Work in cooperation with other project supervisory personnel to determine procedures for
dealing with safety violations.
Provide monthly safety reports to the President and department managers
Continuous development of safety policies and procedures.
Assist in performing compliance audits and implement follow-up corrective actions to ensure compliance with Occupational Safety & Health and Haggerty’s Safety Policy.
Ensure sub-trade workers hold weekly toolbox meetings or are informed about and invited to your weekly toolbox meetings.
Ensure weekly toolbox and monthly safety meetings with all company employees
Set a good example, demonstrate a positive safety attitude and abide by the Safety Code Safe Practices.
Report any anticipated loss of work time to the affected employee’s Supervisor and HR department as soon as possible after an injury has occurred
Ensure good housekeeping on all job sites. Assign specific housekeeping duties to each
employee
Responsible for the daily administration of the Safety Program
Post all Safety bulletins, Safety posters, rules, and regulations
Ensure that pertinent safety inspections/reports are submitted as required
Ensure that corrective action is taken whenever deficiencies are identified
Conduct in house safety training
Keep up with current knowledge of safety literature, regulations and codes or practice
Review accident reports to stay informed and up to date on safety issues
Review and implement Haggerty’s safety policy.
Will work directly with Superintendents on job sites to ensure Quality Control on projects.

The Safety Manager reports directly to the Vice President of Operations

Must have understanding and experience with ALL types of construction and thorough knowledge of industry practices, process and standards

General Requirements:
Ability to work independently as well as part of a larger team
Ability to use cell phone and take pictures
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to understand the same
Excellent listening and understanding skills
Must be proactive, well organized, and have a strong ability to prioritize
Must be able to manage multiple tasks and have excellent follow up skills, both internally and externally
Must be self-motivated, punctual, and professional in both presentation, appearance, and speech
Provide solution-based responses to issues
Fluent in the English language
Reliable personal transportation and a motor vehicle driving record that is consistent with HCI’s and insurance carrier’s standards and policies
Able to lift 50-75 lbs. Ability to lift heavy objects as encountered in the work environment
Ability to work outside year-round in all types of weather conditions
Availability to work extended hours as required by weather conditions or urgent circumstances
Ability to raise, lower and climb various types of ladders
Hearing and visual capabilities to safely handle the hazards encountered in the work environment
Ability to travel throughout all areas of construction sites during all phases of a project (may require standing, walking, or sitting for extended periods of time)
Working knowledge of all crafts (ability to read and understand specifications for all trades)
Maintain valid driver license
Educational and Experience Considerations:
Excellent construction knowledge
Minimum five (5) years of relevant experience in a safety role in construction
Current First Aid/CPR Certifications and Certified Trainer Certifications or ability to attain certification
