Description:
Safety Officers work four ten hour shifts per week. The employee is scheduled to work every-other weekend (Fri-Mon). Safety Officer responsibilities include patrolling campus, responding to calls, assisting with lockouts, providing safe ride services, and building positive relationships with members of the Messiah University community.
Primary Duties
1. Patrol campus via vehicle, bike, or on foot.
2. First responder for medical, criminal, mental health, and other incidents.
3. Conduct investigations
4. Lock/unlock buildings
5. Provide safe rides to students who request them.
6. Enforce parking and traffic codes (ticketing)
7. Build positive working relationships with students, faculty, and staff
8. Maintain consistent and reliable attendance.
Secondary Duties
1. Direct traffic during large events on campus.
2. Perform dispatch services when necessary.
3. Provide coverage when colleagues call off or request time away
4. Other duties as assigned.
Education Required
High School Diploma or Equivalent
Education Preferred
Associate's or Bachelor's Degree
Experience Required
None
Experience Preferred
One year of employment in the security or social services field. Prior experience working in a higher education setting.

Ability to receive constructive feedback and develop self-improvement goals
Special Working Conditions
Must have the ability to mentally and physically perform essential job functions which require walking, prolonged standing, pushing, pulling, stooping, lifting (40lbs) and endure various weather conditions. Willingness to work different shifts, work weekends and holidays, some mandatory overtime required for special events; submit to Hepatitis B immunization or provide documentation of such. This position is essential; employees providing essential services must report to work as scheduled by their supervisor in the event of an emergency closing or delay.
Driving Requirements
This position requires the operation of a Messiah University owned or leased vehicle and the employee must possess and maintain a current driver's license, meet the established criteria, and abide by all policies and procedures as presented in the University's Fleet Vehicle Use Policy.
