Position Title: Safety Officer


Department: Plant Services


Supervised By: Plant Services Director


Location: Santee, Ca


Status: Non- Exempt/ Hourly


Posted: 10/17/2025


Closing Date: Until Filled


Compensation: $16.50-$18.00/Hour DOE


Hours: Thurs-Monday 10pm-6am


 


General Statement of Responsibilities:


The Safety Officer is responsible for maintaining security across all Lantern Crest properties while providing exceptional customer service to residents, families, and the public. This position requires independent judgment, calm decision-making during emergencies, and adherence to confidentiality at all times. The Safety Officer must be able to work under stressful conditions, diverse weather, and flexible schedules, including overtime, nights, weekends, or holidays.


Specific Duties and Responsibilities:



  1. Patrol all buildings, grounds, and parking areas using company vehicles to ensure safety and security. Check doors, windows, and properties for vandalism or unauthorized activity.

  2. Serve as the contact person during emergencies and monitor the night cell phone for calls or incidents.

  3. Perform hourly radio checks with caregivers and med-techs; monitor and respond to resident service calls promptly.

  4. Perform telephone reception duties, including answering calls, taking messages, and providing information as needed.

  5. Gather and dispose of any garbage or debris found during the shift to maintain a clean and safe environment.

  6. Keep work areas free of hazardous objects, equipment, and supplies; immediately report unsafe conditions or equipment to the Plant Services Director.

  7. Maintain cleanliness and order of all common areas and equipment, including floors, carpets, walls, and surfaces. Perform housekeeping duties as needed or in the absence of housekeeping staff.

  8. Clean and maintain all equipment after each use and promptly clean any spills or debris.

  9. Follow preventive maintenance schedules, recording completed actions and noting any needed repairs.

  10. Check daily with the front desk and maintenance request box for repair needs and complete them promptly.

  11. In the absence of the Plant Services Director, prioritize and ensure timely completion of necessary repairs.

  12. Maintain knowledge of Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and follow all safety precautions.

  13. Maintain familiarity with emergency vendor lists to facilitate timely repairs when necessary.

  14. Support community marketing efforts through professional and friendly interactions during property tours and phone inquiries.

  15. Communicate any observed or suspected resident changes in condition to a supervisor immediately.

  16. Maintain a safe and secure environment for all staff, residents, and guests by following established safety standards and procedures.

  17. Promote teamwork through cooperative and respectful interactions with co-workers and other departments.

  18. Work a flexible schedule as needed to support events, tours, and community outreach.

  19. Perform other related duties as assigned.


Qualifications:


Education/Experience:


High school diploma or equivalent is required.


Licenses/Certifications:


A valid driver’s license required with application submission and must be maintained throughout employment.  


Character:


Displays sincere compassion towards cognitively impaired older adults. Demonstrates genuine concern for the physical and emotional needs of older people and their families. Applicants must have a reputation for honesty and trustworthiness.  Must be responsible and able to exercise good judgment, accept administrative supervision, pay attention to detail, follow instructions, including the ability to interact effectively and communicate with people in a professional and courteous manner.  Must be highly confidential and work as a team with other staff.  Applicants should be sensitive to clients’ needs.


Skills:


Strong team building, interpersonal, and organizational skills. Ability to establish and maintain effective peer relationships with coworkers within the Department, community-wide, and the public. Must be able to express ideas clearly, concisely, address audiences effectively, and exercise balanced judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions. Willing to be part of a team and cooperate in accomplishing department goals and objectives. Ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, take initiative, be proactive, and function in a rapidly changing environment. Ability to work with people of all social and ethnic backgrounds, resolve conflicts, negotiate situations, and facilitate consensus.  


Physical and Personal Requirements:


Able to work in varying environments, indoor, outdoor and in all types of weather. Sit or stand for long periods of time. Reach, bend, climb, stoop, lift up to 25 lbs. repetitive hand movement; use and view PC. Reliable transportation and car insurance as required by the state. Travel as needed.


Compliance:


Each employee plays a key role in creating a compliance culture. Employees are expected to learn and comply with all Lantern Crest policies and procedures. One must have the ability to understand the implications and complexities of all compliance policies. Participation in all compliance training is mandatory and generally has a heightened awareness of policies and regulations that are specific to one’s department and position. All Lantern Crest employees are expected to report violations or suspected violations of compliance policies or regulations. 


Other:


Applicants must successfully pass a pre-screening tuberculin skin test or x-ray and a urine drug screen test. Candidates will be required to undergo a physical to ensure health is adequate to perform all duties of the position. Applicants must complete application and authorization form, both must be submitted to Human Resources prior to the close date indicated. Applicants will be required to undergo a background check consisting of fingerprinting and criminal records check with DOJ and FBI.
