Safety Specialist

Job Description - Safety Specialist

Role Summary

The Safety Specialist supports a proactive, hands-on workplace safety program across two manufacturing facilities. This role spends most of the time on the production floor, working directly with employees to reinforce safe work practices, identify hazards, and drive continuous improvement. Because Polytech Fibers has a large Spanish-speaking workforce, fluency in English and Spanish is required to ensure effective training, coaching, and communication.

The ideal candidate is knowledgeable, approachable, and firm—able to balance flexibility with strong safety principles. This position plays a key role in safety training, audits, incident response, OSHA compliance, and collaboration with internal teams and external safety consultants.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain a visible daily presence on the production floor at both facilities, coaching employees and reinforcing safety expectations.
  • Identify unsafe conditions or behaviors and take appropriate corrective action within training and authorization limits.
  • Support and maintain safety programs, policies, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and OSHA recordkeeping and reporting.
  • Prepare and deliver safety trainings, toolbox talks, safety meetings, and new-hire orientation content in English and Spanish.
  • Conduct regular safety audits, inspections, and hazard assessments; document findings and follow up on corrective actions.
  • Serve as the primary contact for workplace incidents and accidents, including on-call response, medical coordination, investigations, and reporting.
  • Monitor safety trends and recommend preventive measures to reduce risk and improve safety performance.
  • Work collaboratively with Maintenance, Production, HR, Leadership, and safety consultants to support safe operations.
  • Enforce safety standards consistently while maintaining professionalism, teamwork, and operational awareness.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • 1–5 years of workplace safety experience in a manufacturing, industrial, or production environment.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish (required).
  • Working knowledge of OSHA regulations, recordkeeping, hazard identification, and safety programs.
  • Experience conducting safety audits, incident investigations, and employee training.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to influence behavior and gain buy-in at all organizational levels.
  • Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and support safety efforts across multiple sites.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including safety systems, incident reporting, and Microsoft Office.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel between two facility locations.

Key Competencies

  • Confident and approachable; able to enforce safety standards respectfully and consistently.
  • Strong observational skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective documentation and reporting capabilities.
  • Sound judgment with the ability to balance flexibility and firmness.
  • Thrives in a hands-on, fast-paced manufacturing environment.

(Eligibility requirements apply)

  • Health, Dental, and Vision Insurance
  • Life Insurance and AD&D
  • Short-Term Disability Insurance
  • Accident and Critical Illness Insurance
  • 401(k) with Company Match
  • Paid Time Off (PTO)
  • Discretionary Bonus Program
