The Safety Specialist supports safety programs across the Torrid Ohio Distribution Center (OHDC) and retail stores. This role conducts inspections, investigates workplace incidents, facilitates training, maintains required safety records, and partners with business leaders to promote a safe environment for associates and customers. 

Reporting to the Senior Manager of Risk Management and Safety, the Safety Specialist helps ensure compliance with applicable U.S. and Canadian health and safety regulations while identifying risks and recommending practical corrective actions. 

What You’ll Do 

  • Promote a positive safety culture by modeling safe behaviors and reinforcing company expectations.  
  • Conduct in-person safety inspections and workplace walkthroughs at the OHDC.
  • Investigate injuries, near misses, property damage, powered equipment incidents, and other safety events; identify root causes and develop preventive actions.  
  • Facilitate accident and injury review meetings and communicate findings to appropriate associates and leaders.  
  • Develop, implement, and deliver safety training and refresher programs.  
  • Maintain accurate incident records, safety metrics, OSHA logs, and required regulatory documentation.  
  • Monitor safety trends and provide regular reports on incidents, hazards, corrective actions, training compliance, and other performance measures.  
  • Partner with Risk Management, Human Resources, Operations, Maintenance, and business leaders to improve workplace safety.  
  • Lead the OHDC Safety Committee, emergency drills, and emergency preparedness activities.  
  • Administer powered industrial vehicle training and coordinate first aid, CPR, and AED training across operating shifts.  
  • Manage the OHDC personal protective equipment program and safety-supply inventory.  
  • Track corrective actions, verify completion, and escalate overdue items.  
  • Assist with evaluation of new equipment, automation, facility modifications, and operational changes for potential safety risks.  
  • Support contractor safety, OSHA inspections, regulatory inquiries, and required injury reporting.  
  • Assist retail stores with incident investigations, hazard correction, safety training, and compliance.  
  • Participate in professional safety organizations and events to support continuous program improvement.  

What You’ll Need 

  • An associate or bachelor’s degree in occupational safety, environmental health, or a related field, or equivalent experience.  
  • Experience in a high-volume, multi-shift distribution center or manufacturing environment.  
  • Knowledge of OSHA, Cal/OSHA, and other applicable safety regulations.  
  • Experience conducting root-cause investigations and developing corrective actions.  
  • Knowledge of lockout/tagout, hazard communication, ergonomics, emergency response, powered equipment, material handling, and walking-working surfaces.  
  • Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and presentation skills.  
  • Ability to interpret safety data and communicate trends and recommendations to leadership.  
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, PDF-editing software, and database-management tools.  
  • Ability to work onsite in a distribution center, adjust work hours based on business needs, and travel on occasion as required.  

Preferred Qualifications 

  • OSHA 10-Hour certification.  
  • ASP, CSP, or GSP certification.  
  • Qualified Powered Industrial Truck Trainer certification.  
  • Knowledge of Canadian occupational health and safety requirements.
