Safety Specialist - Room for Advancement

We are seeking a motivated individual to join our Safety, Health & Environmental (SHE) team.  The ideal candidate for the Safety Specialist role will be results driven, motivated by technical challenges; their will use their excellent interpersonal communication, organization, and demonstrated problem solving analytical skills to successfully oversee, facilitate, and audit their site's safety training programs as well as provide safety support during site shutdowns, equipment inspection and installation, and advise on safety regulatory compliance.ResponsibilitiesThe Safety Specialist will be reportable to the Safety, Health & Environmental (SHE) Manager and have responsibilities in the following key areas:

• Able to prepare, coordinate and deliver safety training
• Training topics include confined space, LTCT, Barricade, Fall Protection, ACC/FCC, Hands-on Fire Extinguisher training, New Hire Orientation and other key programs
• Responsible tracking of all site training
• Inspect facilities, equipment, and safety equipment in order to identify and correct potential hazards, and to ensure safety regulation compliance.
• Review plans for construction of new equipment
• Audit key site safety programs
• Evaluate CSE rescue plans and make recommendations
• Knowledgeable of CSE 1st checks and rescue setup – site resource
• Review safety programs to determine their adequacy/effectiveness
• Support the site during startups, shutdowns, and during periods of construction
• Able coordinate and lead loss prevention and other regulatory safety inspections
• Able to learn the site’s badging system
• Responsible for the site’s security program
• Lead various site safety teams
• Keep current with safety policies, regulations and industrial processes
• General understanding of fire protection systems
• Update site procedures/programs as they come due
• Participate in site inspections/audits
• Additional safety initiatives as needed

Required Skills

• BA or BS degree in Safety, Loss Prevention, Occupational Safety or equivalent
• 3-5 years of experience in a safety role
• Knowledge of OSHA regulations and accident investigation methodology
• Must be detail oriented and self-driven
• Must be proficient with Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word
• Effective oral, presentation and written communication skills; listens and gets clarification.
• Organization and tidiness are critical skills
• Able to work independently and in a team environment
• Must be able to follow instructions
• Able to interface with all types of people (internal and external)
