Summary

The Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) Systems & Training Supervisor is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing the environmental, health, and safety programs and Guidelines within the organization. Their role is crucial in ensuring that the company complies with all relevant laws and regulations while promoting a culture of safety. Follow and promote corporate safety culture in compliance with OSHA regulations and support the necessary training program.

Ensure Workplace Safety: 

Responsible for actively demonstrating and driving behaviors that result in zero accidents and injuries and ensure our safety and our employees are the most important asset that are under our care.   

  • Policy Development: Develop, implement, and maintain goals, policies, procedures, and guidelines that ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and in compliance with OFI & Denali’s standards.

  • Compliance Management: Monitor and ensure compliance with all applicable environmental, health, and safety laws, regulations, and standards. Oversees & conducts Audio-metric assessments. Advises organization of regulatory changes with which compliance is necessary. Sufficient advance notice should be provided so that compliance on the effective date of the new regulations is ensured.
  • Risk Assessment: Conduct regular risk & hazard assessments and audits to identify potential hazards and implement corrective actions. Oversees & conduct Physical Demand Assessments (PDA).
  • Training and Education: Develop and deliver training programs to educate employees on EHS best practices, safety procedures, and emergency response plans.
  • Incident Management: Lead investigations of accidents, incidents, and near misses; develop reports and corrective action plans to prevent future occurrences. Reviews injury/illness and non-injury incident investigation reports and follows up as necessary. Monitors lost-time injuries/illnesses and worker’s compensation claims.
  • Reporting: Prepare and submit required EHS reports to regulatory agencies and management.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in EHS processes and practices.
  • Emergency Response: Develop and maintain emergency response plans and conduct regular drills to ensure preparedness.
  • Budget Management: Manage the EHS budget, including the allocation of resources for safety programs, equipment, and training.
  • Vendor Management: Oversee relationships with external vendors and contractors to ensure EHS compliance during projects and operations. Supports organization/plant engineering to implement engineering controls to minimize safety and occupational health hazards.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Provide leadership and coaching to grow the site leadership and plant operations to take ownership in creating a workplace free of recognized hazards, promote safe work behaviors, and environmental responsibility. 
  • Health and Wellness Programs: Implement programs that promote employee health and well-being, such as ergonomics, stress management, and wellness initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as required

Requirements

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the essential job function satisfactorily. Education and/or Experience

  •   Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, or a related field. A master’s degree is a plus.
  • Or 2 years of college and minimum of 5-7 years of experience in EHS management, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Or 4-year high school diploma and 7–10 years of progressively responsible related experience
  • Relevant certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or similar.

Skills

  • Proven ability to develop and communicate strategies to achieve EHS goals.  
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and other relevant regulations and standards.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and practices
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Possess ability to work independently and make critical decisions
  • Ability to work within tight time frames

Language and Other Skills

  • Ability to speak, read, and comprehend English. Interpret documents such as safety rules, production schedules, purchase orders, maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. 
  • Ability to write/query reports, procedure manuals, and correspondence. 

Reasoning Ability

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of specifications and information furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule form.

Mathematical Skills

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • No supervisory responsibilities.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit and use hands to finger, handle, or touch objects, tools, chemicals, or controls. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, carrying and moving parts, materials, and product in a wet, hot environment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. 

The employee must be able to work with and around all major allergens (milk, eggs, fish, crustacean shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat, soybeans, and sesame) including sensory analysis.
