Position Summary

Mesabi Metallics is looking for a Safety Technician with to support the implementation and enforcement of workplace safety programs. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of MSHA standards, ensuring regulatory compliance, reducing incidents, and promoting a culture of safety across all site operations.

• Conduct regular workplace safety inspections and hazard assessments across surface and/or underground mining operations.
• Enforce compliance with MSHA and company-specific health and safety regulations.
• Identify, report, and assist in correcting unsafe acts, conditions, and practices.
• Support incident investigations by gathering evidence, interviewing personnel, and preparing detailed reports.
• Maintain safety documentation, including training records, inspection checklists, and incident logs.
• Deliver safety training sessions and toolbox talks on relevant topics such as PPE, confined space entry, working at heights, and equipment operation.
• Monitor contractor compliance with site safety requirements.
• Participate in emergency preparedness drills and support response activities.
• Collaborate with site supervisors and department heads to implement risk mitigation strategies.

• Minimum of 3 years’ experience as a Safety Technician or similar role within the mining industry.
• Strong knowledge of MSHA.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.
• Experience conducting safety inspections, audits, and incident investigations.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience in a safety-related field preferred.

• Ability to work in both mining and plant environments, including exposure to dust, noise, and varying weather conditions.
• Capability to perform physical tasks, such as lifting, inspecting equipment, and navigating uneven terrain.

• $70,000 - $85,000 annually, depending on experience and qualificiations.

• Paid Time Off (PTO):
  • 0-5 Years: 120 hours per year.
