Job Description - Safety/Security Specialist

Description

State of the Heart Recovery is a mission-driven addiction recovery and behavioral health organization providing a continuum of care that includes detox, residential treatment, outpatient therapy, vocational services, and community reintegration support. Our work is centered on creating environments where clients can heal with dignity, stability, and meaningful support at every stage of recovery.

As a Safety Specialist, you will help foster a secure and therapeutic setting that supports both client well-being and daily operational continuity. This role is designed for someone who brings calm presence, sound judgment, and a client-centered approach to safety, working in close partnership with clinical, operational, and behavioral-health teams to reinforce a respectful and supportive care environment.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure a secure, orderly, and therapeutic environment across facilities.
  • Promote proactive safety practices, client-centered communication, and facility support.
  • Uphold trauma-informed principles in daily interactions and safety-related activities.
  • Emphasize observation, prevention, and supportive engagement rather than enforcement.
  • Collaborate closely with clinical, operational, and behavioral-health teams to reinforce safety expectations, support emergency response processes, and maintain an environment that promotes client dignity and organizational stability.

Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Valid Level 2 license through the New Mexico Regulation and Licensing Department.
  • Valid driver's license and insurability under organizational policy for driving duties.
  • Eligibility to work in the United States.
  • Availability for some rotations or night coverage based on business demands.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in safety, security, or behavioral-health settings.
  • Training or certification in Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI), trauma-informed care, or emergency preparedness.
  • Training or certification in First Aid/CPR.

Benefits

We offer a comprehensive benefits package designed to support employee wellbeing and stability, including:

  • Health Care Plan (Medical, Dental, and Vision)
  • Paid Time Off (Vacation and Select Public Holidays)
  • Family and Medical Leave in accordance with state and federal law
