Job Description - Sales Application Engineer

Description

The Aftermarket Sales Application Engineer (SAE) demonstrates strong ability to understand the needs and technical requirements from customers. You will play an essential role in the growth of the Aftermarket Sales team. The Aftermarket SAE is responsible for supporting the proposal, project management, and order process in a timely manner. Working with the Outside Sales Team and other Sales Support team members, the SAE reviews project requirements and plans complete scopes of work. The Aftermarket SAE is responsible for estimating costs and writing new proposals to give to customers. 

Requirements

 Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical sales support to Aftermarket (AM) Outside Sales team
  • Perform technical review of all information gathered by AM Outside Sales staff and/or Field Sales Engineers 
  • Responsible for the timely and accurate preparation of a project or repair proposal based on the customer’s requirements
  • Work with suppliers and internal team to determine the best solution to meet customer requirements
  • Obtain proposals from vendors, suppliers, and subcontractors to accurately price projects
  • Provide technical  expertise in selecting equipment to meet the needs based on current building conditions
  • Provide proper pump selection using online or in-house software. Selection may be based on existing equipment sizing or a complete re-design based on known pressure/flow values and fixture counts
  • Enter proposals into  our Microsoft Navision data base
  • Inspect and review  equipment received for accuracy
  • Manage projects and  job meetings with sales staff and service technicians to coordinate and insure a smooth completion
  • Coordinate with sales staff to make customer calls and participate in bid and walk-through meetings with the customers as necessary
  • Assess competitive system performance and hardware evaluation throughout the entire bid process
  • Respond in a timely manner to various technical questions regarding products and systems  solutions to meet customer and sales team needs
  • Prepares and  distributes literature, technical data and promotional material 
  • Maintains a teamwork philosophy to facilitate problem solving and provide good customer service
  • Advises and consults with upper management, customers and industry representatives concerning business opportunities and potential problems which may impact the Company's business
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Chemical Engineering, or related discipline from an accredited university or college
  • 1 - 5 years of experience in an application sales engineering role (preferred) 

Specific Qualifications:

  • Shows proficiency in recording notes and easily accessing them electronically
  • Demonstrates ability to dependably manage multiple bids and projects simultaneously
  • Demonstrates ability to meet deadlines while coordinating efforts and information from co-workers, vendors, and customers
  • Experience working with customers and vendors
  • Problem solving and decision-making skills are essential 
  • Takes ownership of  assignments and decisions
  • Ability to read, comprehend and comment to technical specifications
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Strong teamwork building skills
  • Self-starter, high motivation level 
  • Working knowledge of pumping systems and plumbing equipment is a plus
  • Proper application knowledge of electric motors, VFD’s, control components, and instrumentation is a plus.
