Job Description - Sales Assistant

Priority One Payroll is looking for a motivated and eager individual who is looking to become part of our payroll customer service team.



To be successful in this role, you will need prior payroll experience, attention to detail, excellent phone skills as well as the ability to work in a team environment. Your positive attitude and mix of initiative and team mindedness will help you fit in on day one. You will have an opportunity to grow with the company and provide crucial payroll compliance expertise and customer support.



A day in the life of one of our Payroll Customer Service Specialists is one filled with variety and an extensive amount of attention to detail. In this position, you will be interfacing with approximately 250 clients and supporting them with a high level of customer service every day. The customer service experience is what has made Priority One Payroll continue to grow and be successful.

Position Summary


Reporting to the Sales Manager, the Sales Assistant plays a key role in bridging the gap between sales and client onboarding. This in-house role supports the Sales Manager in sales administration, streamlining internal sales processes, managing pipeline visibility, and ensuring a smooth, repeatable client onboarding experience. This position requires a detail-oriented, proactive, and personable professional who is eager to build relationships and create organizational structure in a fast-paced small business environment.



How You’ll Make an Impact



  • Become an expert in payroll products and services offered by Priority One Payroll

  • Assist with the full sales process from prospect qualification to client onboarding

  • Document and refine the onboarding process, creating repeatable systems and checklists

  • Track clients through the pipeline using CRM or workflow tools

  • Prepare sales orders and client implementation documentation for internal setup

  • Collect and organize new client data, including tax forms, YTDs, employee master files, and service selections

  • Coordinate internal resources (e.g., time clock, WC/DBL, accrual policies) to ensure successful implementation

  • Manage post-sale follow-up (30-day check-ins, testimonial requests, referral asks)

  • Support ongoing client needs and route inquiries to the appropriate department


What You Must Bring to This Role



  • Previous experience in sales support, customer service, or client onboarding - required

  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to juggle multiple clients at varying stages of implementation - required

  • Comfortable working independently in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment - required

  • Familiarity with sales CRMs or project management tools - desired

  • Experience in payroll, HR, or small business services - desired

  • Demonstrated success rapidly building and maintaining relationships within an organization - required

  • A history of excellence in communication (verbal and written), active listening, overcoming objections, risk mitigation, and problem-solving - required

  • Exceptionally high attention to detail demonstrated - required

  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects/priorities at the same time while prioritizing deliverables day-to-day - required

  • Demonstrated mastery responding to questions in a tactful & professional manner - required

  • Strong interpersonal skills & the ability to effectively work with a wide range of individuals - required

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office or Google Suite - required

  • Transportation to & from work locations

  • Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard or operate equipment

  • No or very limited exposure to physical risk
