Job Title: Sales Engineer
Company: Westport Precision Partners, LLC

Department: Sales / Engineering
Reports To: General Manager

Position Summary:

The Sales Engineer serves as the technical liaison between the customer and the manufacturing team, combining strong engineering knowledge with excellent sales and communication skills. This individual is responsible for identifying customer needs, developing tailored solutions, preparing cost estimates and proposals, and ensuring customer satisfaction from inquiry to delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with new and existing customers
  • Understand customer requirements and translate them into technical solutions
  • Prepare and present technical proposals and quotes
  • Collaborate with engineering, production, and quality teams to ensure feasibility and alignment of customer requirements
  • Serve as the point of contact for technical questions from customers
  • Conduct site visits, product demonstrations, and presentations as needed
  • Support the sales process from lead generation to order fulfillment
  • Provide input on pricing strategies based on cost estimates and market conditions
  • Monitor project timelines and customer expectations throughout the order lifecycle
  • Stay current with industry trends, competitors, and new technologies

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical field (or equivalent experience)
  • 3+ years of experience in technical sales, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial environment
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, such as machining, sheet metal fabrication, welding, and assembly
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; familiarity with CRM systems preferred
  • Willingness to travel to customer sites as needed (up to 25%)

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience in a sales role
  • Bringing a book of business to draw from
  • Familiarity with sheet metal, machining and electromechanical assemblies
  • Background in quoting or cost estimating
  • Knowledge of ERP systems and manufacturing workflows

Work Environment:

  • Office and manufacturing floor environment
  • Occasional travel to customer locations, trade shows, or industry events
