Federal Sales Engineer, Sr Staff


Washington, D.C. / Northern Virginia

Our comprehensive suite of application security solutions – including Static Application Security Testing (SAST), Software Composition Analysis (SCA), and Dynamic Application Security Testing (DAST) – helps development teams detect and remediate vulnerabilities across proprietary code, open-source components, and AI-generated code throughout the software development life cycle.


Position Overview:


As a key member of the Federal Sales team, the Senior Sales Engineer will play a critical role in driving technical engagement with customers across the Department of Defense, federal civilian agencies, and defense contractors.


Key Responsibilities:



  • Partner with sales to develop and execute technical strategies for federal customers

  • Lead discovery sessions, technical demos, and proof-of-concept initiatives

  • Communicate technical value and differentiation to both technical and executive stakeholders

  • Stay current on industry trends and represent Black Duck at federal and security events


Key Requirements:



  • U.S. Citizenship

  • 8+ years of experience in sales engineering, solution architecture, or technical pre-sales, with a focus on application security

  • Proven experience supporting sales to the Department of Defense, federal civilian agencies, or defense contractors

  • Familiarity with federal and DoD security standards and frameworks (e.g., NIST 800-53, NIST 800-171, DISA STIGs)

  • Strong understanding of application security concepts and technologies (SAST, SCA, DAST)

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, capable of addressing technical and business audiences

  • Familiarity with development languages such as C/C++, Java, .NET, and scripting languages

  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps workflows

  • Strong problem-solving skills and a consultative approach

Pay Range

$141,100 - $200,000 USD
