The Sales Manager provides amazing customer service to generate sales and provide product knowledge and support to both customers and associates.   As the Manager on Duty, he/she is responsible for the execution of everyday store operations including guiding and developing associates that provide amazing customer service, achieving sales goals, and execution of merchandising and marketing initiatives while maintaining the highest standards of housekeeping and merchandise recovery and planogram integrity.  The Sales Manager will have assigned departments and responsibility for several roles as identified and assigned below. The Sales Manager will be a role model for Ace Helpful and “What can I help you find

today” while demonstrating and teaching associates.

Major Responsibilities

The major responsibilities for this position include:

  • Leads with a positive and proactive management style.
  • Ensure each customer receives amazing service following the WOW program.
  • Use Radio headset to communicate and guide other associate’s in working with customers and completing tasks.
  • Awareness of all promotions and advertisements including AceHardware.com.
  • Takes ownership for assigned roles, departments and performs to the highest standards. Stocking / Replenish out of stocks / Process new truck receipts. Set planograms, endcaps & displays including signing.   Sets promotions including signing, completes pricing changes and maintains shelf labels.
  • Manages with daily updates a “To Do” list and delegates workload among all supervisors and associates and holding them accountable to the highest performance standards.
  • Actively participate in daily huddle meetings, will lead them on days as opening MOD.
  • Participates in the Store Housekeeping Standards “Maintain as We Go” which may include: Taking out the trash, dust and mop floors, clean restroom, associate breakroom, and clean stockroom.   Recovers and maintains merchandising standards putting away merchandise and facing on shelf / hook. Retrieve carts from the parking areas and pick up trash outside. Clean the front patio and Garden Center.
  • Processing new shipments and helps keep the back stockroom clean and organized.
  • Following established safety rules and safe work practices.  Document accidents immediately.
  • Proactively monitoring customers and if shoplifting is suspected or observed, provides a higher level of service.
  • Aid customers in locating merchandising in store, on acehardware.com, as well, processing special orders.         
  • Solicit customers to open an Ace Rewards loyalty account, promotes the benefits and future savings potential.
  • Answer customers’ questions, “how to” requests, and provide information on procedures and policies.      
  • Assists in recruiting business customers into our Business-to-Business program.
  • Completes at least 20 hours of training per year.

  • Focus on the needs of others, which includes the customer, leadership and cooperation with team members, helpfulness, responsiveness and service orientation.
  • Assist in the training and development of Sales Specialists and Customer Service Associates.
  • Understanding of the flow of merchandise into the store, onto the floor and out the door with the customer.
  • Will be responsible for truck receiving, processing and correctly stocking to the sales floor weekly.
  • Takes the initiative to learn the Ace Systems and Epicor Operating Systems and MS Outlook, Word and Excel.

Minimum Requirements

The minimum requirements for this position include:

  • Education/Training: High School degree, College preferred.  Possess a vast product knowledge of hardware related products along with a willingness to learn to become a product knowledge expert.
  • Multi-year experience in hardlines retail environment with sales, merchandising, operations and management.
  • Sales & marketing experience with retail programs, establishing relationships and working with customers.
  • Knowledge and experience working in retail operational computer systems, MS Word and Excel a plus.
  • A commitment to service excellence and customer satisfaction.
  • Solid team player with excellent interpersonal skills and a strong willingness to learn.
  • Excellent communication skills, organizational ability, high attention to detail, and ability to multi-task.
  • Ability to work rotating schedule including designated closing nights and weekly days off.  Flexible to meet the needs of the business.

Physical Requirements

The minimum physical requirements for this position include:

Must be able to lift to 80 pounds to load and unload customer orders.

Ability to stand for an extended period of time.

Move and handle boxes of merchandise and fixtures throughout the store, which entail lifting and performing all functions as set forth.

Job responsibilities may change based on the needs of the business.
