Job Description - Sales Manager

About Rocky Talkie

Rocky Talkie launched in 2019 with its signature product, a backcountry radio made for climbers and skiers. Since then, we have launched multiple best-in-class products in the adventure sports industry. We are dedicated to developing user-friendly, high-performance products for the backcountry. Rocky Talkie has a rapidly growing base of happy customers in the USA and Canada, and we are expanding into Europe. We design our products to help people in extreme conditions, and our radios have been adopted for a wide range of outdoor activities and commercial applications. We have a small, passionate, and highly motivated team with a deep understanding of our customers. 

At Rocky Talkie, we’re driven by the belief that better communication in the backcountry can save lives. As part of this mission, we donate $2 per radio sold to search and rescue teams, supporting those who help keep outdoor communities safe.

About the Role

The Sales Manager is a new role that will play a key part in shaping the next chapter of Rocky Talkie’s growth, driving expansion across outdoor retail, commercial, and specialty channels. This is an entrepreneurial opportunity to help build one of the most trusted brands in the backcountry. The Sales Manager will lead account growth, open new markets, and develop the partnerships and team structure that power Rocky Talkie’s mission. This role combines hands-on selling with strategic leadership, requiring an individual who excels in the field, understands the outdoor industry, and is driven by both impact and results. Working closely with company leadership, the Sales Manager will use data, creativity, and deep product knowledge to translate Rocky Talkie’s momentum into sustainable, mission-aligned growth.

Key Areas of Ownership

Leadership

  • Develop and execute sales strategies to achieve company revenue goals — translating high-level plans into actionable territory and account tactics for the team.
  • Lead, coach, and motivate a team of sales representatives to ensure a strong understanding of products and customer needs, and achieve sales targets.
  • Recruit, onboard, and support independent sales reps.
  • Monitor and analyze sales performance metrics, sharing regular reports and insights with the leadership team.

Outside Sales 

In the initial phase of this role, the majority of time will be spent actively selling - building relationships, expanding accounts, and driving new business across key markets. 

  • Serve as a lead outside sales representative, managing a portfolio of accounts.
  • Identify new opportunities and expand market presence through active prospecting and relationship building.
  • Conduct regular store visits and sales calls to maintain and grow customer relationships.
  • Negotiate and close sales deals with retail partners and distributors.
  • Identify and attend key trade shows and industry events that align with company goals, representing Rocky Talkie and building new relationships.
  • Seek out and represent Rocky Talkie at networking events and customer meetings.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with Marketing on promotions, collateral, and trade show execution.
  • Partner with Operations on inventory planning, fulfillment, and account onboarding.
  • Gather market feedback and share insights on pricing, packaging, and product features to inform our product roadmap.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, or related field (preferred).
  • 5+ years of sales experience, including managing independent sales reps.
  • Proven success selling in the outdoor industry and/or commercial channels (e.g., industrial safety, construction, first responders), including at least 2 years in a leadership role.
  • Aptitude and commitment to develop a deep understanding of our products’ technical features, performance, and use cases — and translate that expertise into clear, compelling value for customers across diverse markets.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to assemble and analyze data, draw insights, and develop data-driven action plans for growth.
  • Passionate about the outdoors and excited by the opportunity to shape the future of an authentic backcountry brand
  • Ability to travel up to 30% of the time.
