S&B Operators

GovFirst is seeking to hire multiple S&B Operators to support highway and bridge maintenance activities in various locations across Virginia, including Bristol, Culpeper, Fredericksburg, Hampton Roads, Lynchburg, Northern Virginia, Richmond, Salem, Staunton, and other regions within the Transportation Operations Division. These operators will assist with maintenance, preventive repairs, and construction-related tasks while ensuring safety and efficiency on site.

• Perform minor repairs and preventive maintenance on equipment and tools used for highway and bridge operations.
  

• Operate light and medium-duty equipment such as dump trucks, loaders, backhoes, and other maintenance machinery.
  

• Execute heavy manual labor, including lifting, carrying, and working in adverse conditions such as heights, heavy traffic, and over water.
  

• Apply knowledge of highway and bridge maintenance methods, equipment, materials, and safety practices.
  

• Read and follow oral and written instructions to complete tasks accurately.
  

• Communicate effectively with supervisors, team members, and external personnel.
  

• Perform mathematical calculations for measuring and laying out construction elements on bridges and culverts.
  

• Demonstrate skill in carpentry, concrete forming, finishing, steel fabrication, and welding.
  

• Fabricate steel components and perform welding tasks as required.
  

• Utilize hand and power tools safely and effectively while adhering to regulations.
  

• Obtain and maintain a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and DOT medical card within six months of employment, and comply with all DOT and VDOT standards.
  

Requirements

• Knowledge of maintenance methods, safety practices, equipment operation, and materials used in highway and bridge repair.
  

• Ability to perform minor repairs, preventive maintenance, and mathematical calculations related to construction tasks.
  

• Experience operating light and medium-duty highway equipment.
  

• Ability to work safely in physically demanding environments and adverse weather conditions.
  

• Strong communication skills and ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  

• Proficiency in carpentry, concrete work, steel fabrication, and welding.
  

• Ability to read construction plans, layouts, and instructions.
  

• Must obtain and maintain a valid CDL and DOT medical card within six months of employment.
