Sanitation Utility Technician

The Sanitation Utility Technician works independently as part of a small team that supports multiple departments and operations across the plant including: shipping, receiving, production, and sanitation. Daily tasks can range from power washing, basic grounds keeping, building maintenance, warehouse work, snow removal, etc. The standard schedule for this position is Monday -Friday from 7am- 3:30.

1. Manage the general cleanliness and sanitary operations of all areas of the plant indoors and outdoors through tasks such as: industrial spill clean-up, waste disposal, power washing, loading oil into totes, basic landscaping, painting, etc.
2. Maintain the designated Master Sanitation Schedule.
3. Responsible to perform the necessary tasks as assigned by the Food Sanitation Manager to support the overall shipping, receiving, production, and sanitation standards of SDSP.
4. Relief of other departmental positions on occasion to cover vacation schedules and operational needs (may fall outside of regular scheduled hours).
5. Perform duties outside normal responsibilities as needed to support the team and overall organizational goals.
6. Be a good steward of company resources. 

SQF (Safe Quality Food) Compliance

SQF compliance certifies that SDSP’s food safety and quality management system complies with food safety regulations. In turn, our customers are assured that the product has been produced, processed, prepared, and handled according to the highest possible standards.  

All Associates are required to comply with SDSP’s food safety program and polices, including but not limited to:

1. Keep all work areas clean.
2. Attend required training to gain knowledge and understanding of the food safety program.
3. Articulate the importance of SQF while performing your daily job duties.
4. Represent self and SDSP through personal appearance. Associate must be well groomed and dressed in clean, neat, safe, and suitable clothing for his/her job per SQF and SDSP policy.

Working Conditions

1. Exposed to loud noise
2. Working around large pieces of processing equipment
3. Potentially exposed to grain dust and processing materials
4. Potential to operate power truck vehicles
5. Work includes indoor and outdoor working conditions 
6. May work in confined quarters
7. Work on or around high structures

Technical

1. High school diploma or equivalent
2. Good verbal and written communication skills
3. Basic math skills
4. Maintain a safe, positive work attitude.  
5. Must be dependable, self-motivated and able to work well with others.  

Physical

1. Ability to frequently bend, squat, climb, kneel, stand, walk, handle objects, and reach above shoulder level
2. Ability to occasionally sit, push/pull, and use fine finger movements 
3. Ability to frequently carry/lift 25lbs. and occasionally carry/lift 25lbs to over 50 lbs.
