Scanner Field Technician A

GovFirst is seeking to hire multiple Scanner Field Technician A positions to support remote sensing and scanning operations in various locations across Virginia, including Bristol, Culpeper, Fredericksburg, Hampton Roads, Lynchburg, Northern Virginia, Richmond, Salem, and Staunton within the Transportation Operations Division. These technicians will be responsible for overseeing terrestrial laser scanning (LIDAR) equipment and supporting data processing activities for transportation projects.

Key Responsibilities:

• Oversee the operation and maintenance of terrestrial laser scanning (LIDAR) equipment across districts.
  

• Evaluate equipment performance, develop usage parameters, and conduct research and testing for new applications.
  

• Provide on-site leadership, technical guidance, and supervision for scanner operations.
  

• Assist in determining budget and manpower requirements for scanner-related activities.
  

• Process digital images and perform data editing to generate point clouds, 3D data, models, orthophotos, and mosaics used in transportation projects.
  

• Perform quality assurance checks on all LIDAR and imagery products to ensure data standards are fully met.
  

• Utilize modern PCs with high-resolution laser scanners and data processing software to create accurate deliverables.
  

• Apply image processing, lidar data processing, digital terrain modeling, and graphics editing software in project tasks.
  

Requirements

• Experience with LIDAR or terrestrial laser scanning equipment, including setup, operation, and maintenance.
  

• Strong technical skills in evaluating equipment performance and establishing operational parameters.
  

• Proficiency in digital imaging, data editing, and point cloud generation techniques.
  

• Experience in 3D modeling, orthophoto creation, and data visualization.
  

• Ability to conduct quality assurance and ensure accuracy and reliability of data products.
  

• Familiarity with budget planning and manpower allocation for technical projects.
  

• Strong leadership and communication skills to provide guidance and training to teams.
  

• Proficiency in the use of data processing and graphics editing software.
