INITIAL TRAINING WILL BE IN HOMEWOOD, AL

Under direct supervision, is responsible for scheduling patient appointments and procedures in an efficient and timely manner. Answers all incoming calls in a timely manner. Observes strict guidelines for effective, courteous patient and provider care. Serves as a liaison between patient and medical staff. Supports and adheres to Birmingham Gastroenterology Associates Code of Ethics and Business Standards. To work as a cross trained team player assisting in all areas of patient scheduling, following HIPAA guidelines at all times.

The responsibilities for the position

  • Responsible for direct contact with patients, facilities and hospitals in scheduling office appointments, consults and procedures
  • Multitasking, organization with high degree of emphasis on department teamwork.
  • Ability to handle multi-line phone system.
  • Answer calls timely under a high degree of pressure. Triaging and transferring calls when necessary to the appropriate staff or queues.
  • Handling Relatient call messages and appointments.
  • Consult with patients to collect relevant information including but not limited to insurance information, clinical and referrals to schedule office visits and procedures.
  • Verifying patient’s demographics and insurance for changes in AllScripts PM, adhering to HIPAA guidelines at all times.
  • Working around physician’s appointment schedules, at times rescheduling due to time constraints and/or clinic cancellations.
  • Deliver a high degree of cheerful, caring and courteous customer centered care when engaging patient’s every day.
  • Enter clinical and demographic information into database accurately, Index patient records in the chart while observing HIPAA guidelines at all times.
  • Assuring that insurance verification and referrals are in place before scheduling office visits and procedures.
  • May also be asked to assist with any other job duties as assigned.
  • Have an open line of access at all times to coworkers and management.

Requirements

The minimum qualifications required to successfully perform this position are the following:

  • Education of High School equivalent or higher.
  • Specialized knowledge of Medical Insurance requirements and referral processes.
  • Specialized knowledge of Electronic Health Records and processes.
  • To be able to type a minimum of 35 wpm.
  • Ability to use any electronic means of communication such as Microsoft word, excel and outlook.
  • Employee will need to be pleasant and have great verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with assisting patients in a Medical office environment such as Hospital or physician offices.
  • Ability to handle a multi-line phone system.
