Bozeman Montessori has an opening for a full-time School Assistant / Teacher. The School Assistant assists the Operations Manager with the day-to-day running of the program and reports to the Operations Manager. This person may support administrative duties behind the scenes, step into the classroom to support the teachers and assistants as needed, assist with the food program when needed, maintain the physical environment, care for pets or plants and help with school events.

The ideal School Assistant candidate has a passion for excellence in early childhood education and a dedication to the school community. They must show an ability to:
- Respond to the children with warmth, compassion and the respect awarded them as cherished members of our community
- Step into any classroom to cover other staff who are absent with a general knowledge of early childhood care skills such as diapering, toileting, bottle and solid food feeding, and naps, within a Montessori setting
- Respect the lead guides of each classroom in a cooperative manner while serving in their classrooms, following their procedures and routines
- Provide break or prep coverage for all staff for lunch, meetings, or lesson planning by stepping into each classroom as necessary while carrying out classroom schedules and activities as instructed.
- Special event planning setup, support, and restoring the environment afterward
- Meticulously maintain the staff break and prep areas including maintaining inventory lists of food and beverage supplies, art and classroom supplies, adding to weekly shopping lists as needed, and sometimes performing weekly shopping runs.
- Manage aspects of the food program including understanding safe food handling practices, managing allergy information and cautions and transporting food from one campus to another, and supporting transitions to and from meals.
- Provide support to the entire center by supporting laundry, preparing and serving meals, removing, washing, and storing dishes, etc.
- General cleaning, sanitizing, and disinfecting of the classroom and center as needed.
- Attend all staff meetings, in-service days, and trainings as required.
- Meet and maintain all applicable licensing regulations as required for Early Childhood Educators in a state-licensed center.
Physical Requirements:
- All positions at Bozeman Montessori require the ability to function and move about inside a classroom environment, school kitchen, common areas and shared staff spaces which includes the operation of electronic devices and other office productivity machinery in addition to standard classroom materials, frequent written and verbal communications and interactions with children, parents, caregivers, other employees, clients, vendors, and visitors, and time cheerfully spent outdoors.
- This position specifically requires the ability to bend, stoop, and kneel, walking, standing, sit on the floor, and lifting up to 40 lbs, and participating in all variety of physical activities that take place in an early childhood setting. This position also includes taking in packages, snow shoveling, maintaining the garbage enclosure areas, moving furniture, and helping with other physical tasks as needed.
Upon Hire:
- Satisfy licensing requirements, including providing current Tdap and MMR immunization records
- Be current in adult/child CPR-First Aid Training (or become so within one month of hire)
- Be willing to become current in Montana-required health and safety trainings (within one month of hire)
- Pass background checks as required by licensing at the time of hire
Preferred Education:
- Experience with early childhood care and education
- Experience with Montessori principles or training
- Montessori credential in early childhood is exceptional, but not required
Job Type:
Full-time, Monday-Friday, 8:00 am - 4:00 pm position, 34-40 hours per week, year-round with planned spring, summer and winter breaks; Summer schedule is Mon-Thurs.
