The Health Coordinator (for School District 2) is responsible for coordinating, implementing, and evaluating school-based health services and wellness initiatives for students and families in partnership with the Billings Urban Indian Health & Wellness Center (BUIHWC) and the Native American Development Corporation (NADC).
This position focuses on ensuring that students-especially American Indian and Alaska Native youth-have equitable access to comprehensive health, mental health, and social support services. The coordinator serves as the primary liaison between schools, families, community agencies, and BUIHWC programs to promote health equity, wellness education, and culturally responsive care.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities and Expectations:
Coordinates school-based health programming within assigned schools, integrating services provided by BUIHWC goal alignment as part of Indian Health Service contractual
Collaborate with school administrators, counselors, teachers, and nurses to address barriers to learning related to health and wellness.
Establishes and maintains positive relationships with students, families, and community partners.
Assists with planning and implementation of health promotion events and educational outreach (e.g., immunization drives, health fairs, mental health awareness).
Serves as a liaison between BUIHWC clinical services and school-based personnel to ensure continuity of care.
Provides information and assistance related to health insurance enrollment, Medicaid, Medicare, and other community health resources.
Collects and maintains accurate records in compliance with HIPAA and FERPA regulations.
Develops and distributes culturally relevant health education
Participates in staff development, community events, and professional training as required.
Supports grant and reporting requirements, including data collection for program evaluation and funding compliance.
Assists in attaining registration paperwork and consents for BUIHWC compliance.
Performs other duties as assigned to promote a collaborative, cross-functional, and community-centered team environment.
Provide Youth Engagement Activities that involve youth, ages 13 – 17, in meaningful experiences around advocacy and commercial tobacco prevention and traditional tobacco knowledge.
Engage schools or youth clubs to provide youth-led community activities and mass reach media about tobacco prevention and local tobacco policy.
Meet with the American Indian Education Department in local school districts to advance e-cigarette education, and awareness of quit resources (i.e., My Life My Quit).
Conduct educational activities on the tobacco industry’s predatory marketing tactics, which can include flavors, placement, price, packaging, and promotion, as well as evidence-based strategies to reduce initiation of tobacco product use (such as Flavor restrictions and prohibiting self-service display.
Minimum Qualifications (Experience/Education:
Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Behavioral Health, or two years of case management
One year of working within a school-based curriculum or classroom
Experience working with healthcare or behavioral health teams
Experience with crisis intervention and triage
Proficient in Microsoft Office
Must possess a valid driver's
Must pass a pre-hire drug screen and background
Competencies or Knowledge, Skills and Abilities CKSA's:
Knowledge of best practice in education principles and
Knowledge of available community resources and referral processes for Native
Ability to communicate effectively with community members, providers, and other
Strong interpersonal skills to meet with the community to establish trust and
Ability to adapt to the changing needs and interests of the community
Skilled in data collections methods for tracking participation and reporting related to grant
Physical Demands&Working Conditions:
Work is primarily in an office/small health clinic
Incumbent must be able to perform computer, data entry and word processing related tasks for a majority of the workday, as required.
Frequently sit, with continuous full use of hands, repetitive movement, keyboarding, and clear vision, as well as speak and hear normal conversation.
Requires high attention to detail with frequent deadlines, and internal and external social
Incumbent must move, stand, bend, or kneel on an intermittent
Requires intermittent, moderate physical effort, moving or carrying 5 to 25 May occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds.
Incumbent is occasionally exposed to on-street driving and moving vehicles with an overnight stay away from home.

Usually work 40 hours a week unless position is exempt in which typical hours worked may
Work hours are generally Monday through Thursday, 8AM to 5PM, and Friday 8AM to 12PM but will include early morning and/or evening meetings and events
