School Based Orientation and Mobility Specialist - Canton, GA - with Great Benefits

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Orientation and Mobility Specialist to join our team in Canton, GA, for the upcoming school year. As an Orientation and Mobility Specialist, you will play a vital role in supporting students with visual impairments in developing their orientation and mobility skills, enabling them to navigate their environment safely and independently. Responsibilities:

• Conduct comprehensive assessments to evaluate students' orientation and mobility skills, including spatial awareness, orientation to the environment, and travel skills.
• Develop individualized orientation and mobility plans and goals based on students' specific needs and abilities.
• Provide direct instruction and interventions to students individually or in small groups, focusing on skills such as cane use, route planning, street crossing, and public transportation.
• Collaborate with teachers, parents, and other members of the educational team to support students' independent mobility and participation in school activities.
• Monitor students' progress, collect data, and adjust instruction and strategies as needed.
• Document and maintain accurate records of assessments, progress reports, and session notes.
• Participate in IEP meetings and contribute to the development of individualized education plans.
• Stay up to date with current research and best practices in orientation and mobility.

Requirements:

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Orientation and Mobility or a related field.
• Valid certification or licensure as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist.
• Experience working with students with visual impairments in an educational setting is preferred.
• Strong knowledge of orientation and mobility principles, assessments, and instructional strategies.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with students, parents, and school staff.
• Ability to work independently, manage caseload, and prioritize responsibilities.
• Flexibility and adaptability to meet the needs of students and accommodate the school schedule.
