District of Columbia International School (DCI) is a public charter school serving over 1600 racially and economically diverse students in grades 6-12 from across the District of Columbia. Position Overview: DCI is hiring a full-time School Counselor. The School Counselor provides counseling and support to DCI students in the assigned grade level, as well as monitors attendance and provides attendance interventions, in order to promote a positive educational environment for all students. This position will also collaborate with appropriate personnel to ensure positive educational and counseling practices for the students.

Salary Range:  $64,349 - $108,691 (Starting salary is determined by education and years of relevant experience) 

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree is required.


• Bilingual in Spanish (preferred).


• Master’s Degree in counseling preferred


• Familiarity with Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), District of Columbia Municipal Regulations, Title 5 Education, The ASCA National Model: A Framework for School Counseling Programs, ASCA National Standards, ASCA School Counselor Competencies, ASCA Ethical Guidelines, ASCA School Counselor Performance Standards, and  NASW Ethical Guidelines.


• Experience working closely with diverse families of students with disabilities.


• Knowledge about special education and 504 practices and regulations, particularly those pertaining to DC schools.


• The ability to collaborate and work as part of a team.


• Strong written and oral communication skills.


• Strong interest in, or experience with, language immersion, 1:1 technology, and IB Middle Years Program model.


• Commitment to keeping current on best practices and evidence-based interventions for students


• Commitment to ensuring access and achievement for our learners with exceptional learning needs..


• A Master's Degree in secondary education or this content area is preferred.


• Previous experience teaching in this content area is strongly preferred.


• Ability to use multiple technology platforms to guide instruction and communicate with students and families and proficiency with communicating using G-Suite tools, including Gmail, is preferred.


• Strong written and oral communication skills.


• Clear a background check.

Key Qualities & Skills:

• Ability to provide support for students within the tier 1 environment and students with 504 plans and IEPs.


• Ability to organize, plan, and implement counseling groups for students related to executive functioning, social skills, and other behaviorally related skills.


• Monitor student attendance and implement attendance interventions as needed for students on the grade level.


• Ability to support leaders in building schedules for secondary students. 


• Advertise course offerings to students and support the scheduling process.


• Ability to support students in making decisions about their course work and scheduling. 


• Ability to lead efforts in Social Emotional Learning on the tier 1 and tier 2 levels.


• Ability to accept and implement feedback received for real-time improvement. 


• Interest and desire to engage in the IB MYP/DP and language immersion.


• Embrace professional development through attending coaching meetings, school/content-based sessions, and external development opportunities to deliver instruction at a high level. 


• Collaborate with general and special educators, coordinators, and leadership. 


• High degree of communication through a variety of mediums with parents and students.


• Embrace French, Spanish, and Chinese cultures by leading and participating in cultural activities for faculty and students.


• Other duties as assigned.
