Position Description

St. Thomas More Catholic School is seeking a School Nurse for the 2025-26 school year. The successful candidate is a person with a strong desire to be a member of a Catholic educational community that has robust enthusiasm to strengthen and facilitate the educational process by improving and protecting the health status of children and staff by identifying and assisting in the removal or modification of health-related barriers to the learning and teaching process.

Requirements/Qualifications

• RN
• Current Missouri License
• CPR and First Aid certified

Responsibilities

• Promote and protect optimal health status of students.
• Provide health assessments by obtaining health history, observation, and screening for deficiencies in hearing, vision, growth, dental, etc. and make referrals as needed.
• Develop and implement health plans.
• Maintain, evaluate, and interpret cumulative health records.
• Follow procedures and provide crisis intervention for acute injury, illness, and emotional disturbances.
• Serve as a resource person to the classroom teacher and administrators in health instruction.
• Coordinate school and community health activities and serve as a liaison between school, home, and community.
• Provide leadership and/or support for staff wellness.
• Assist in the formation of health policies, goals, and objectives.
• Prepare and submit reports for the superintendent and the Missouri State Department of Health.
• Authorize exclusion and readmission of students in compliance with policies on infectious and contagious diseases.
• Assist school personnel in establishing sanitary conditions in school.
• Participate in training programs.
• Demonstrate autonomy is decision-making and practice.
• Protect the rights of and maintain confidentiality regarding students, staff, and families as well as general school matters.
• Keep accurate and appropriate records.
• Promote a sense of collaboration and teamwork to share information and learning.
• Provides emergency, first aid and other minor health services to students in a school setting. Administers student health records and assists parents with simple medication dispensation.
• Performs a wide variety of student health care activities including skilled nursing care to students, CPR and first aid as needed, regular review of possible health care problems, and general awareness of developments in the health care field as they apply to the school setting. 
• Administers medications and provides patient care activities within the scope accorded by licensure. 
• May supervise Health Room Aide and/or perform duties described in that job classification. 
• The School Nurse will possess certifications, licenses and insurance compliant with all State and diocesan policies and laws.
