We believe student health and wellness are essential to academic success, and we are seeking a compassionate, organized School Nurse to support the needs of our students and school community.
Position Summary
The School Nurse provides direct health services to students and supports a healthy, safe learning environment. This role manages daily student health needs, medication administration, health plans, required screenings, compliance documentation, and wellness education supports. The School Nurse collaborates closely with families, staff, and community providers to ensure students receive appropriate care and accommodations.
Key Responsibilities
Student Health Services
Provide first aid and nursing care to students and staff as needed
Assess student health concerns and determine appropriate next steps (return to class, parent contact, referral, emergency response)
Administer medications and treatments in accordance with policy, physician orders, and state requirements
Maintain and update individualized health plans (e.g., asthma, diabetes, seizures, allergies)
Compliance & Documentation
Maintain accurate, confidential student health records and documentation
Track and support compliance with immunizations, physicals, and required health forms
Conduct or coordinate mandated health screenings (vision, hearing, BMI, etc., as applicable)
Support reporting requirements and documentation for health-related incidents and needs
Collaboration & Communication
Communicate with families regarding student health needs, medication plans, and follow-up requirements
Collaborate with school staff to support accommodations, 504 plans, and student safety plans related to health needs
Coordinate with community health providers and agencies when needed
Health & Safety Support
Support schoolwide health and safety protocols (infection control, sanitation guidance, illness management)
Assist with emergency preparedness, including drills and health-related response plans
Provide staff guidance on health-related procedures (e.g., epi-pen use, diabetes plans, seizure response)
Student Wellness
Promote student wellness through education, prevention, and health-related resources
Support attendance efforts by addressing health barriers to learning when appropriate
Required Qualifications
Current nursing license (RN or LPN, as required/allowed by state and school policy)
CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain promptly)
Ability to maintain confidentiality and manage sensitive student information
Strong organization, documentation, and communication skills
Ability to work effectively with children, families, and diverse school teams
Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience in a school or pediatric setting
Experience developing health plans and supporting 504/IEP health accommodations
Familiarity with state school health requirements and reporting expectations
Bilingual (Spanish/English) a plus (if relevant to your community)
