School Nurse

Bellarmine College Preparatory, a Jesuit secondary school, has been educating young “men for and with others” in the tradition of St. Ignatius Loyola, founder of the Society of Jesus, since 1851.

The school nurse will primarily be responsible for ensuring the health and wellness of students at Bellarmine during the school day. Keeping abreast of practice changes and trends within the field of school nursing is critical. It is also essential to maintain awareness of state and federal regulations and requirements.

Responsibilities:
Manage the care of students with chronic health conditions (e.g., asthma, diabetes) by dispensing prescribed medicines, coordinating with healthcare providers, teachers, and parents.
Monitor and manage immunization records to ensure compliance with state regulations.
Provide first aid and emergency care for injuries and/or sudden illnesses.
Assist in the development and implementation of emergency response plans and drills.
Maintain accurate and confidential student health records including vaccination/immunization information.
Communicate with parents regarding their child's health status, concerns, and recommended follow-up care.
Provide critical support to athletic department for student injuries occurring during the school day.
Educate students on hygiene and safety practices.
Administer first aid and CPR as needed/required.
Contact parents when students are ill or injured.
Hold students in the health office until parent(s) can pick up.
Communicate internally based on status of student(s) in the health office.
Coordinate the annual training and certification of CPR and First Aid for coaches and faculty.
Provide nursing support during Summer Days Program (Approximately mid-June – end of July)
Perform other duties as requested or required.
Qualifications and Requirements:

Certified in ACLS (advanced cardiac life support) and BLS (basic life support).
Certified in CPR and First Aid.
Knowledge of nursing care methods and procedures.
Knowledge of emergency care.
In-depth knowledge of health and safety guidelines and procedures (sanitation, decontamination, etc.) and willingness to always follow them.
Compassionate and able to show empathy.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills.
Comply with laws / regulations regarding confidentiality, including FERPA and HIPAA, as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications:

Active and valid RN license.
Accredited degree in the field of nursing.
Physical Requirements:

Ability to lift/carry up to 25 pounds regularly, using proper lifting techniques.
Ability to sit, stand, stoop, walk, bend, twist, use hands and fingers, reach with hands and arms, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, twist, push balance, and climb a ladder (or other similar stepping aid) as needed.
Ability to travel around our campus safely and comfortably as needed.
Ability to read information in printed material, on a mobile device, or computer screen.
General Information:

Compensation: $45 - $55 per hour; DOE
This position is classified as a regular, part-time position (approx. 30 hours per week).
This position is non-exempt (hourly).
Work hours are typically Monday – Friday from 8:00am – 2:00pm.
This position is eligible to participate in Bellarmine’s excellent benefits package
This is not a telecommuting position.
