Delivers a comprehensive school health services program for all Baltimore County Public Schools (BCPS) students. Collaborates with others in the school to ensure that health services are coordinated and integrated with the school program. Provides health consultation to the principal and health services to employees for acute illness and injuries. Performs other duties as assigned.
Education, Training and Experience:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with an associate’s degree in nursing.
Two years of professional nursing experience.
Bachelor’s degree in nursing preferred. Candidate(s) will be required to complete the bachelor’s degree in nursing within five years of employment.
Licenses and Certificates:
Possession of a valid license to practice registered nursing (RN), issued by the Maryland Board of Nursing is required.
Possession of current CPR certification.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of the nursing process. Knowledge of pathophysiology and nursing management of common acute and chronic health conditions of the school population. Knowledge of the tools, instruments, and equipment used in nursing. Knowledge of current health issues and trends. Skill in the provision of a variety of nursing care services. Skill in the monitoring and assessment of patients' health care needs and services. Skill in the preparation and maintenance of records. Skill in verbal and written communication, including interdisciplinary and multicultural communication. Skill in the use of computers and word processing, database, patient care documentation, and spreadsheet software packages. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with students, parents, and BCPS supervisors and administrators.
Ability to maintain confidential and sensitive information and records. Ability to apply the nursing process in the community setting.
PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
The work of this classification may include the performance of physical activities such as walking, standing, and lifting, the operation of medical equipment and instruments, and travel throughout the County.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Persons appointed to this class may be required to work beyond their normally scheduled hours with little or no advanced notice.
Persons appointed to this class must obtain a bachelor’s degree in nursing within five years of employment in this classification. Employees who do not obtain this requirement may be terminated.

SALARY: $61,028 - $120,717

OTHER COMPENSATION: Position may be eligible for relocation bonus, extra duty activities pay, or other student activities pay as defined in the applicable Bargaining Unit Agreement.

RETIREMENT: Eligible for the Maryland State Retirement System.
