About Tenacity
Founded in 1999, Tenacity’s mission is to support the scholastic, character, and physical development of urban youth through academic instruction, tennis and fitness programming, and life skills development.
Tenacity’s ACE Academy is an intensive three-year initiative serving middle school students in partnership with Boston Public Schools. The program provides academic enrichment, study/life skills development, and tennis instruction within an Extended Learning Time or embedded school day model. Students commit to participating three to four afternoons per week during grades 6–8.
The program emphasizes academic success, physical fitness, resilience, and 21st-century skill development. Site Directors work closely with school personnel to identify student strengths and needs while ensuring curriculum alignment with state and city English Language Arts standards.
Position Overview
This role is ideal for a passionate, entrepreneurial leader committed to whole-child development and equipped to manage a school-based site. The School Site Leader – Rackets Lead will guide both the academic and tennis components of the program while fostering strong community relationships with families, school staff, and partners. A strong candidate will be committed to equity, community-building, and student achievement both in and out of the classroom.
Key Responsibilities School Site Leadership
- Manage all day-to-day ACE Academy activities at your assigned site.
- Supervise, evaluate, and support a diverse team of staff, volunteers, and instructors.
- Build collaborative relationships with school leaders, teachers, and parents.
- Lead student recruitment and registration to ensure full site enrollment.
- Maintain high levels of student retention and attendance.
- Oversee the effective delivery of literacy and tennis curricula, ensuring lessons are:
- Engaging and objective-driven
- Aligned with student needs and data
- Focused on student growth and development
- Support students facing behavioral, academic, or social-emotional challenges.
- Participate in relevant school meetings.
- Collect and analyze program assessment and evaluation data.
- Collaborate with the Family Engagement Coordinator to:
- Maintain regular communication with families
- Conduct in-person family visits
- Support the 8th-grade high school selection process in partnership with the College and Career Prep team.
- Contribute to other programmatic areas, including tennis, literacy, and family engagement.
- Lead staff recruitment and training.
- Organize and oversee field trips.
Organizational Leadership
- During summer months, serve in a lead role in the Summer Tennis, Reading, and Pickleball Program (STRP) or prepare for the upcoming ACE school year.
- Support the implementation of strategic goals, including:
- Expansion of existing school-based teams
- Development of new school partnerships
- Represent Tenacity in events, funder visits, and other community engagements (some evenings/weekends may be required).
- Assist with planning and execution of organization-wide events and initiatives.
Rackets Instruction
- Lead implementation of the tennis component of the ACE program.
- Create a safe, supportive, and affirming learning environment.
- Deliver structured, engaging tennis instruction aligned with program goals.
- Respond to student needs in real time during activities.
- Maintain and prepare tennis equipment.
- Implement elementary tennis programming at feeder schools as a recruitment tool for Tenacity’s summer and year-round programs.
Summer Responsibilities
- Lead in Tenacity’s STRP.
- Assist in designing and facilitating STRP staff training.
Qualifications & Experience
- Strong commitment to equity and student success.
- Proven experience managing multicultural teams in urban settings.
- Excellent organizational and public speaking skills.
- Bilingual in Spanish (strongly preferred).
- Ability to create and sustain program engagement across all stakeholders.
- Demonstrated success in student/family recruitment and retention.
- Ability to build strong partnerships with school personnel and community partners.
- Minimum 3 years of youth tennis programming experience (large group settings preferred).
- Background in Sports-Based Youth Development (SBYD).
- Instructional and program management experience with middle school students.
- Strong classroom and behavior management skills.
- Effective communicator (written and verbal).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Bachelor’s degree required; focus in education, social work, or human services preferred.
- Master’s degree a plus.
- Tennis experience a plus.
- Valid driver’s license and access to a car strongly preferred.
