Job Description - School Year Dog Walker (Everett Area) MF, 9am2pm

  • Do you still drive your mom to the doctor in the snow—because she’s counting on you?
  • Do you carry extra layers in your car—because the PNW weather can’t make up its mind?
  • When you hear colds are going around, do you wear a mask—because missing work isn’t an option?
  • Do you put appointments in your phone and leave a sticky note on the bathroom mirror—because showing up matters and you don’t trust “I’ll remember”?

If that sounds like you, we’d love to meet you.

At Tailored Pet Services, we’ve been serving Snohomish County since May 2011. Our clients count on us for reliable, personalized care—and that only works when our walkers manage their time, prepare for the unexpected, and treat pet care like a real job. This isn’t a gig. It’s a commitment. And for the right person, it’s deeply rewarding.

🐾 Fun Parts of the Job

  • Dogs who treat you like the best friend they haven’t seen in years
  • Working independently while caring for dogs (with occasional human client interaction)
  • Staying active and getting plenty of fresh air while you work (bonus: built-in workout)
  • A steady weekday schedule (no nights, weekends, or holidays unless you want extra hours)
  • Take school holidays off to spend with family (with advance notice)

🌧 The Not-So-Glamorous Parts

  • Walking in rain, snow, wind, or summer heat (sometimes all in the same week)
  • Driving in winter weather when roads are safe but less than ideal
  • Walking on icy driveways or paths to get to a client’s front door
  • Picking up poop and cleaning up accidents
  • Managing dogs that pull, jump, bark, or behave unpredictably
  • Getting soaked when a wet dog shakes all over you before you have a chance to towel them dry

📅 Attendance Expectations

We have a fair, consistent attendance policy — and it applies to everyone

  • Any combination of three attendance issues in a 30-day period (arriving late, leaving early, or missing work) violates policy and triggers progressive discipline
  • You must have a reliable backup plan for emergencies to ensure you stay under the 3-attendance-issue rule
  • We do have a backup system for emergencies, but no extra walkers waiting around — the team counts on you being here when you’re scheduled

Position Overview

  • Walk 4–6 dogs/day in all weather (all solo and back-to-back)
  • Pick up/drop off dogs from their homes securely and professionally
  • Wipe paws, refresh water, give treats, and follow specific client instructions
  • Scoop poop and monitor for any health or behavior issues
  • Send client updates via text (often with a photo)
  • Work independently to complete your assigned route on time
  • Occasionally assist with meet-and-greets or fill-ins

Requirements

  • M–F availability from 9am–2pm (non-negotiable)
  • Experience in animal care is a plus, but we’re happy to train the right dependable, committed person
  • Valid driver’s license + insured, reliable vehicle
  • Physically able to walk 4–6 dogs per day (each 30 minutes and ~2 miles)—that’s 8–12 miles/day
  • Live within 15 minutes of McCollum Park (600 128th St SE, Everett)
  • Able to commit to the role for the 2025–2026 school year (September–June)

Not a Fit If You…

  • Want a seasonal or short-term job (We build lasting relationships with clients—we’re not a temporary stop.)
  • Rely on reminders to stay on schedule (You’ll manage your own route without someone checking in.)
  • Think your own pets fully prepared you for this job (Client dogs don’t follow your rules—they may jump, pull, or behave unpredictably. This job requires humility and a willingness to learn.)
  • Can’t walk and drive in all weather—rain, snow, heat, wind (Think postal carrier, not fair-weather friend—the dogs still need you.)
  • Get overwhelmed when plans change last-minute (This is a client-driven role—schedules shift based on their needs, not ours.)

💵 Pay & Perks

  • $425–$475/week (W-2 employee)
  • Paid sick leave—including mental health days
  • Workers’ comp + liability insurance
  • Staff discounts on daycare, grooming & more
  • Supportive team culture: Two walkers have been with us for over 3 years—we invest in people who show up for the long haul.
  • More hours available through cat sitting, overnights, and fill-in work. Opportunities to grow into full-time or blended roles in 2026
