Science Live Team Member

Description

The Science Live Team Member is a dynamic role focused on delivering live, engaging science programming to museum guests. This position requires a strong commitment to facilitating interactive, hands-on experiences that ignite curiosity and foster learning. Team members must demonstrate a high level of expertise in the topics they present while ensuring safety and compliance with museum and OSHA regulations.

• Deliver engaging, age-appropriate science programming to guests, fostering hands-on learning experiences for all audiences
• Collaborate with the team to design and implement educational programs that align with the museum’s mission and educational goals
• Promote inquiry-based learning by encouraging curiosity and exploration among children, educators, and visitors
• Share creative and innovative ideas to continuously enhance and expand programming offerings.
• Work with the Science Live Manager to assess, evaluate, and refine programming
• Ensure that all demonstrations and activities are conducted safely, in accordance with Museum and OSHA safety regulations
• Stay informed and compliant with Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) safety practices and procedures
• Monitor, troubleshoot, and maintain audio-visual equipment to ensure smooth operation during presentations
• Support special events, educational programs, overnight groups, and museum outreach initiatives
• Assist with museum special projects as needed, contributing to the broader goals of the institution
• Assist with general cleaning and maintenance taste to ensure a safe and welcoming environment
• Participate in regular staff meetings and training sessions to stay current on best practices in educational programming
• Maintain accurate records of activities, including attendance and feedback, to track program impact
• Support additional museum initiatives as assigned, helping to inspire curiosity and promote discovery-based learning experiences 

Requirements

Preferred Requirements

• Theatrical experience
• Basic knowledge and interest in science fields
• Strong communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and engagingly to diverse audiences

Availability Requirements

• Flexible schedule, with weekend and holiday availability required and some occasional evening shifts

• Professionally represent Science Museum Oklahoma and its mission
• Ability to foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment where all guests feel welcome to experiment and create.
• Must work well with children and be comfortable engaging audiences in a fun and energetic way, including being silly and animated in front of both kids and adults.
• Excellent communication skills, including proficient writing and editing abilities.
• Approachable, kind, and confident demeanor, with a willingness to receive and implement feedback.
• Independent and proactive work ethic, with the ability to identify and complete tasks with minimal direction, while also thriving in a cooperative team environment.
• Practical understanding of safety protocols and best practices for conducting science demonstrations. 

Working Conditions

This position works in an active and busy children’s museum setting.

• Work involves frequent standing and walking for long periods of time.
• Work involves crawling, climbing and crouching 
• Work may include occasional pushing and/or pulling, lifting, and carrying objects weighing up to 40 pounds.
