Deliverables:

  • Attend weekly OSR Staff meetings. - Weekly
  • Attend in-person OSR Staff meeting. - Bi-Annually
  • Attend monthly Review Policy Committee (RPC) meeting. - Monthly
  • Attend monthly Extramural Research Staff meeting. - Monthly
  • Attend any ad- hoc meetings. - Ad-Hoc
  • Work products and documents related to referring applications to identified reviewers; serve as liaison between federal staff and reviewers; enter reviewer data into the Committee Management system in order to prepare peer review rosters. - Ad-Hoc
  • Work products and documents related to analyzing and validating payment information; clarify and communicate administrative and policy requirements associated with peer re-view; ensure that high quality written reviews are obtained; obtain written critiques. - Ad-Hoc
  • Work products and documents related to attending study section meetings; take note of discussions; write and edit summary statements including the resume of) discussion. - Ad-Hoc
  • Work products and documents related to coordinating critiques from expert reviewers; evaluate incoming reviews for completeness and accuracy; provide recommendations for follow-up; organize and plan face-to-face video conference and virtual review meetings. - Ad-Hoc
  • Work products and documents related to identifying and coordinating the participation of reviewers for each application received by NCCIH; identify and select reviewers; assess reviewers against applications for potential conflicts of interest. - Ad-Hoc

Work Details:

  • Work with staff to manage the scientific peer review of grant and cooperative agreement applications, and contract proposals assigned for primary merit review. 1
  • Collaborate with staff to identify and coordinate the participation of reviewers for each application received and identify and coordinate the participation of reviewers for grant applications. 2
  • Provide support to federal Scientific Review Officer with writing and editing of summary statements including the resume of discussion when needed. 3
  • Performs administrative review of research grant applications.
  • Provide timely response to all inquiries from program, reviewers, and applicants and keep informed of all actions.
  • Perform a thorough review of the content of each individual application and its relevance in terms of the scientific interests of the Institute.
  • Evaluate incoming applications for completeness, compliance, and responsiveness.
  • Interact with and coordinate the review activities with appropriate NCCIH and/or CSR staff.
  • Organize and plan face-to-face video conference, in-person, or virtual review meetings as determined by NCCIH staff.
  • Identifies specific areas of expertise for peer review panel, searches databases and resources and prepares lists of potential reviewers.
  • Identify and select reviewers by matching the expertise of the reviewers to the research grant application.
  • Identify and select reviewers by matching the expertise of the reviewer with the specific science contained in the research grant applications and recommend potential reviewers.
  • Prepare peer review rosters.
  • Make initial determinations regarding the appropriate assignment of all grants.
  • Make assignment decisions and resolve conflicts in assignments based on knowledge of the scientific interests of the Institute.
  • Validates and enters information into databases.
  • Work with staff on entry of reviewer data into the Committee Management system in order to prepare peer review rosters.
  • Assign applications to reviewers.
  • Analyze and assist in validating payment information submitted to the NIH Scientific Review Evaluation Activity (SREA) Management and Service Center.
  • Identifies involved persons who must be on a conflict of interest list and identifies deficiencies which must be addressed prior to review.
  • Assess reviewers against applications for potential conflicts of interest.
  • Enter, update and check the correctness of conflict data for all reviewers.
  • Use databases and internet sites to identify appropriate reviewers.
  • Examine key personnel, institutional affiliations and letters of support associated with each grant application to determine potential conflicts of interest.
  • Serve as liaison between federal staff and reviewers.
  • Attends peer review meetings to take notes for use when preparing final summary of documentation of meeting proceedings.
  • Attend review meetings and ensure that each application receives an appropriate and fair review; create a meeting roster and enter relevant reviewer information; and enter meeting information in Internet Assisted Review.
  • Prepares and presents opening administrative remarks for peer review meetings.
  • Schedule review meetings; prepare materials for reviewers; interact with staff.
  • Captures the results of committee deliberations during the review meeting.
  • Attend study section meetings and support the federal Scientific Review Officer by taking note of discussions.
  • Consult with staff as necessary to ensure smooth execution of pre- and post-meeting details.
  • Obtains written critiques from reviewers.
  • Obtain, evaluate and coordinate written critiques from expert reviewers.
  • Subsequent to the reviews, manage the coordination of critiques from expert reviewers,
  • Ensure that high quality written reviews are obtained.
  • Evaluates incoming reviews for completeness and accuracy.
  • Provide recommendations for follow-up by federal Scientific Review Officer.
  • Proofread, clarify and edit reviews, summaries and reports.
  • Evaluate incoming reviews for completeness and accuracy.
  • Ensure that high quality written reviews are obtained.
  • Ensure that summary statements and technical evaluation reports are compiled and edited to produce high quality documents.
