Position: Screening & Referral Therapist

Location: Hays, Kansas

Pay: $64,218 per year

Job Type: Full-time; in-person

Schedule: M-F 8am-5pm OR 9am-6pm

Why You Should Apply:

If you’re a compassionate and dedicated mental health professional looking to make a meaningful impact in your community, this is the opportunity for you. As a Screening & Referral Therapist at High Plains Mental Health Center, you’ll be on the front lines of care — responding to individuals in need of crisis support, mental health screenings, and critical service referrals. This role is perfect for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys problem-solving, and wants to be part of a dynamic and supportive clinical team.

You’ll work with individuals of all ages, providing both scheduled and walk-in services, while building strong connections with community partners and internal teams. Your work will directly influence the mental health outcomes of clients throughout northwest Kansas, helping ensure no one is left without the support they need — when they need it most.

What You’ll Do:

As a Screening & Referral Therapist, you will serve as a key clinical resource for individuals seeking mental health services—often during times of acute need. You will:

  • Conduct mental health screenings and crisis evaluations for individuals of all ages through both scheduled and walk-in appointments
  • Provide immediate, short-term crisis intervention and stabilization services
  • Refer clients to appropriate internal programs or external providers for ongoing care, treatment, or psychiatric admission when necessary
  • Offer informational and referral services to help individuals and families navigate available mental health resources
  • Work collaboratively with other programs and departments within the Center, as well as with external community partners and service agencies
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation, adhering to all agency policies and professional standards
  • Participate in staff meetings, clinical supervision, and ongoing professional development
  • Contribute to a supportive, team-oriented environment while maintaining a strong sense of accountability and professionalism
  • Provide services in alignment with High Plains Mental Health Center’s mission to ensure compassionate, accessible care for all individuals

This role requires strong clinical judgment, effective communication skills, and the ability to work under pressure while remaining calm, empathetic, and solution-focused.

At High Plains Mental Health Center, we're here for you — not only for the individuals and communities we serve, but for every member of our team. Our mission drives everything we do, and that includes supporting our employees with the same compassion, dedication, and care we offer our clients.
