POSITION: Cashier
DIVISION: Aquatics
STATUS: Full Time/Seasonal
CATEGORY: Hourly, $13-$16
FLSA: Non-Exempt
REPORTS TO: Site Manager
JOB SUMMARY
Cashiers provide quality customer service to patrons of one of Elkhart’s three aquatic facilities. This includes preparing food and drinks, collecting cash and credit card payments, and having a friendly demeanor with the public. Cashiers are tasked with managing the drawer for admissions and/or food services.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Collect admission fees from patrons entering facility.
- Records accurate attendance and financial records.
- Complete transactions for the food service sales while explaining pricing and items in a friendly manner.
- Provide excellent customer service to patrons and employees.
- Maintain clear communication with other staff members and supervisors.
- Maintain a clean and safe area.
- Prepare and serve ready to heat or serve food products.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- High school education or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
- First aid certification preferred.
- Cash handling experience preferred.
- Food handling experience preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Ability to handle cash transactions accurately.
- Must be able to do arithmetic, calculations, and balancing of the drawer at the end of the shift.
- Customer service experience is a plus.
- Ability to work with people and calm/deescalate tense situations when necessary.
- Must be able to effectively prioritize daily work functions.
PHYSICAL, MENTAL, AND VISUAL SKILLS
- Must have the ability and history of remaining calm and rational when confronted with stressful or volatile situations.
- Must have a positive demeanor when in contact with the public.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Work environment is generally performed in an indoor setting. Cashiers will typically work afternoon hours and weekends. Occasionally hours will be extended to cover Parks and Recreation programs or private rentals. Must be able to stand on feet for long periods of time.
POST OFFER TESTING REQUIRED
- The City of Elkhart is a Drug Free Workplace. Therefore, successfully passing a post offer drug screen is required (random drug testing may be conducted after employment).
- Background checks producing acceptable BMV and criminal history reports required.
