About the Position:
The Town of Smithfield is seeking responsible, personable, and detail‑oriented individuals to serve as Gate Guard / Maintenance staff at our beach facilities. Under the supervision of the Recreation Manager and Recreation Supervisor, this position ensures the beach pavilion and surrounding facilities are maintained in a clean, safe, and welcoming condition. This role requires strong customer interaction, enforcement of beach regulations, and pride in maintaining the appearance and operation of the beach.

Beach hours are 10:00 am - 6:00 pm, seven days a week from mid-June to Labor Day

Key Responsibilities:
• Enforce beach seasonal passes and sell day passes (Georgiaville Beach only).
• Enforce parking stickers, boat permit stickers, and trailer permit stickers (Georgiaville Beach only).
• Enforce residency requirements for facility use (Slack’s Beach only).
• Direct customers to appropriate parking areas and manage parking order.
• Clean beach area and pavilion during and at the end of scheduled shifts.
• Safely operate the beach gate and keep the surrounding area clean and orderly.
• Assist with trash removal and assure grounds are kept in good condition.
• Maintain restrooms, pavilions, and picnic areas.
• Participate in coordinating community beach activities (arts & crafts, special events, etc.).
• Report problems or safety concerns to the Recreation Supervisor or Manager as needed.
• Work with the Recreation Supervisor and Smithfield Police Department daily on facility operation and compliance.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:
• Ability to work an 8‑hour shift.
• Ability to work up to 40 hours per week.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Ability to work cooperatively with other staff.
• Ability to operate communication devices appropriately.

Working Conditions:
• Must be able to work independently.
• Must be able to work nights and weekends as required.
• Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions.

• Must meet the physical requirements outlined in the functional job description (attached).
