Position Summary

Oversee the mental, emotional, and social health (MESH) of campers and staff. Partner with campers, families, and counselors to provide the resources, training, and skills necessary for campers to be successful while at camp. Uphold all policies, procedures, and safety standards to ensure the wellbeing of all campers. Be an active participant in campers’ experience and camp community. This seasonal full-time position is needed at Camp Alice Chester in East Troy, WI from May 21, 2025 through July 29, 2025. 

What You’ll Do

• Review in advance camper health histories for assessing and anticipating specific individual needs. 
• Identify individual needs of campers and discuss behavioral plans with camp counselors and parents prior to the campers’ arrival. 
• Observe and interact with campers and staff to promote a positive experience at camp. 
• Work one-on-one with campers who are experiencing difficulty participating in the program. 
• Intervene if campers are experiencing significant behavioral challenges. 
• Help campers and staff resolve conflicts appropriately. 
• Provide support and guidance to staff as they deal with camper’s behavior problems. 
• Be available to debrief campers / staff in situations where emergency actions are needed or advised. 
• Be available to step in situations that may arise during the camp and provide necessary assistance to the camper prior to allowing the camper to return to activities. 
• Consult and guide staff to monitor the overall emotional and social well-being of the camp community 
• Provide support to staff as they deal with personal challenges. 
• Provide assistance alongside Counselor Coordinator in mediating staff conflicts and monitor staff morale. 
• Work as a liaison with parents referencing camp behavior policy in communicating problem behaviors 
• Keep Assistant Camp Directors informed of all situations and issues as they arise. 
• Assist in the opening and closing of camp.      
• Assist in providing training to staff during orientation and pre-camp training. 
• Comprehend, monitor and be willing to initiate crisis management plan and overall safety guidelines, including emergency procedures. 
• Provide resources to staff and campers to assist with MESH needs. 
• Monitor safety procedures as they pertain to the complete supervision of all campers and staff.   
• Document all services rendered for both campers and staff. 
• Other duties as assigned. 

• At least 21 years of age
• Bachelors Degree in relevant field or a third- or fourth-year student majoring in education or human services degree and have previous experience of working with children. Experience working with young adults a plus. 
• Knowledge and experience of working with children and youth with special emotional, behavioral, cognitive, communicative and/or physical challenges. 
• Work flexible schedule, irregular, weekend, and evening hours possible. 
• Ability to maintain records and create and implement plans of action.   
• Access to dependable transportation, valid driver’s license, compliance with the council’s policy of automobile insurance limits, and a driving record that meets the requirements for coverage of the council’s business auto insurance carrier. 
• Ability to accept guidance and supervision.   
• Ability to make decisions and act wisely and calmly in emergencies.   
• Willingness to subscribe to the philosophy of the Girl Scout program and enroll as a Girl Scout member  
• Comfort and ability to live, sleep, and work in a rustic outdoor environment with irregular hours. 
• Physical demands and work environment regularly requires the employee to walk, hike, and work outdoors in wooded areas and extreme weather conditions.  
• First Aid/CPR preferred or willingness to be trained.
• Flexibility to support other administration team members when needed.
• Commitment to creating and maintaining a positive, fun, and professional environment.
• Effectively and respectfully communicate instructions, issues, and needs with campers, staff, and supervisors.
• Uphold and respect camp and Girl Scout traditions.
• Willingness to be an active member of camp and all camp activities.
• Must have background check completed by GSWISE.
