Our Location

Energy Trust provides a range of work location options, including remote, hybrid and in-office work. This position will represent Energy Trust in public settings and potentially at community events. We are open to candidates who live throughout Oregon and Washington. The Sector Lead - Residential would be expected to report to the office on a quarterly basis, at minimum.

What We're Looking For:

This is a senior management position responsible for managing the Energy Trust Residential (RES) Sector energy efficiency staff, a multi-year sector budget, and a portfolio of programs. This position provides strategic direction to the sector staff to achieve utility territory energy savings targets, manage program budgets, and program delivery contractors. The Sector Lead is responsible for organizational and team development within their sectors and driving high-performance.

This individual reports to the Assistant Director, Energy Programs.

This position is expected to report to the Portland office quarterly, at a minimum, for all staff and other in-person meetings. Travel may include occasional regional travel when appropriate to fully understand stakeholders, customers and markets served by Energy Trust.

What You’ll Do:

• Provides leadership in planning, organizing, and managing the development and implementation of all Energy Trust Residential Sector energy efficiency programs and initiatives. 
• Provide strategic direction to residential and small multi-family related programs, translating organizational direction to clear deliverables including:

• Defining the structure of market approaches to achieve savings;
• Designing the structure of program management and delivery contracting to achieve savings targets.
• Cross-sector and cross-department coordination and collaboration
• Guiding program managers to respond to market changes, define new directions or develop initiatives as appropriate.

• Guiding program managers in developing programs for undeserved communities and customers identified as priority customers.

• Oversee Residential sector budgets in excess of $30 million/year.
• Oversee Sector’s programs’ budget development, ensuring budgets are allocated in accordance with regulation and Board guidance.
• Organizational development and leadership of a high-performing team.
• Hire, direct, mentor, and motivate Residential sector staff, including direct supervision.
• Perform fiduciary oversight to ensure programs and delivery contractors are performing within regulations and board approved budgets and policies.
• Ensure sector alignment with Energy Trust multi-year goals.
• Work on behalf of Energy Trust, in coordination with senior management, to provide thought leadership to inform prioritization of internal, strategic initiatives.
• Responsible for sector metrics, reporting activities, and presenting information to Executive Team, the Board of Directors, legislators, and other external parties.
• Ensure effective and positive inter-department collaboration and activity coordination, with a focus of best serving customers. 
• Lead the negotiation of complex, multi-year contracts and oversee sector program contracting process. This includes ensuring the proper execution of RFP processes, developing scopes of work, soliciting bids, negotiating, and finalizing contracts, and execution of the contract through staff.
• Represent Energy Trust interests with national, state, and regional stakeholders, and regularly give persuasive presentations at public events.
• Provide input and direction for organization as requested by executive management team.
• Ensure appropriate participation in and responses to program evaluations and measure-level, benefit-cost analyses.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

• Supervise and develop Sector managers and support staff.
• Provide mentoring and support to senior level managers in managing staff.
• Provide strategic oversight to contract managers in managing contractors.
• Participate in hiring process for sector staff.

What You’ll Need:

• Bachelors degree in related discipline or equivalent professional experience.
• 8-10 years’ experience in energy industry overseeing portfolio or program strategy, development, oversight, and management. 
• Demonstrated experience in managing budgets greater than $25 million. Experience in energy efficiency programs and/or utility experience preferred.
• 6 years managing staff or cross-functional teams and in negotiating and managing complex contracts.
• Demonstrated ability in business financial analyses, including constructing and applying investment criteria, payback rules, modeling.
• Demonstrated ability to define strategic markets and develop program goals, actions, approaches and key indicators.
• Knowledge and experience with analyses of energy efficiency measures for savings, costs and cost-benefit metrics.
• Knowledge of residential energy efficiency and technologies preferred.
• Strong analytical, writing, and communications skills.
• Strong interpersonal and personnel management skills.
• Ability to define, direct and utilize technology and market analyses.
• Experience operating in and understanding a highly regulated industry.
