TITLE: Security Guard

DEPARTMENT: Guest Experience

REPORTS TO: Security Director

Ocean Church Security Guards partner with the work of God in people’s lives by ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for congregants, visitors, and staff. This position serves with excellence, vigilance, and a Kingdom mindset to ensure church events and activities occur safely and without disruption.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Complete an exterior walk around the facility, verifying doors and secure and appropriate doors for activities and unlocked and accessible to participants


• Be observant of persons loitering, facility damage, blocked/obstructed exits, parking lot activities, or anything “out of the ordinary” (such as unidentified items, potentially dangerous objects or conditions, suspicious vehicles, etc.) 


• Walk around the interior of the building, checking doors and verifying that secured areas are locked and emergency exits are clear


• Be available to open/unlock interior doors as needed for activities

• Be available to assist church members with various activities and requests for assistance (as does not interfere with safety/security priorities)


• Keep an eye on the parking area for suspicious vehicles/persons/activities


• Maintain a visible and welcoming presence at the entrances, in the front lobby/front of the church, and in the parking lot


• Actively keep church access points secure and be watchful for unusual occurrences or persons who look out of place (Approach these persons with caution, while continuing to be God-honoring and politely offering assistance)


• Assist homeless persons or those looking for help or resources, offer to connect with an OC pastor or homeless resource

• Verify the interior of the building is secured, participants have left the building, and rooms are locked with lights off and no hazards observed


• Perform a final walk around the building, ensuring all exterior doors are locked


• Ensure people have made their way to their vehicle safely and have exited Ocean Church property (Often, people like to converse in the parking lot after events. Please be patient and allow for their gathering, providing for their safety)

WORK SCHEDULE

Flexible part-time weeknights and weekends

• Has a valid Florida Class D and G Security Licence


• Stays calm under pressure; is able to assess situations quickly and make sound decisions


• Professional, approachable, and friendly; maintains authority when needed


• Well-versed in Florida’s Use of Force Laws (Florida Statutes Ch 776)


• Proficient in the safe use and handling of firearms

• 1-3 years of prior experience in security, law enforcement, military, or a related field is preferred.


• Able to de-escalate situations and engage with individuals with tact, diplomacy, and compassion

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Able to walk, stand, climb stairs, and patrol for extended periods of time. Can lift up to 50 pounds and respond swiftly to emergencies, including running short distances or assisting individuals in distress.
