Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind (AIDB) is the world’s most comprehensive education, rehabilitation, and service program serving individuals of all ages who are Deaf, Blind, DeafBlind, multidisabled, and their families. Founded in 1858, AIDB serves more than 30,000 infants, toddlers, children, adults, and senior citizens with hearing and vision loss throughout Alabama each year.
Our services span a lifetime and include five campuses in Talladega, a statewide network of regional centers, Early Intervention services, traditional and nontraditional educational opportunities in residential, day, and outreach settings, and a manufacturing facility known as Alabama Industries for the Blind (AIB), the state’s largest employer of adults who are Blind.
ABOUT OUR LOCATION
The Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind North Campus is located in Decatur, Alabama. The campus
occupies a beautiful location that sits on Highway 31 in South Decatur. This is a recently created
campus that, although under construction, is already home to a number of AIDB departments and
staff. The expansion of programs in Decatur creates new opportunities and challenges as the campus
is being created all while we continue to serve the local communities.

The Security Guard will work as part of the campus operations team and will make effective decisions and solve problems using sound judgment in crisis situations. This position requires individual initiative and teamwork, excellent listening skills, and physical ability and stamina such as frequent standing, walking, lifting, and guiding and/or carrying materials. The Security Guard will be required to attend extracurricular activities, work in all weather conditions, work effectively and communicate with groups and individuals of all ages in a blind, deaf, and multi-disabled community of individuals.

You will support our 24-hour campus operations department which includes our security, transportation, and facility maintenance programs to name a few.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or GED
Two (2) years of verifiable work history in a security related role
Valid Driver License and eligibility for AIDB insurance
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Law Enforcement or Military experience
Two years Campus Security experience
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
Security Operations & Oversight
Patrol & Inspection: Conduct foot patrols (walking 5+ miles per shift) and check buildings and doors to ensure total campus security. Report any trespassers to local law enforcement and document accordingly.
Incident Management: Prepare Incident and Offense reports, ensuring accuracy and proper distribution to relevant departments. Submit reports in a timely manner.
Event Safety: Help coordinate and manage safety and security logistics for special events held on campus.
Communication Mastery: Demonstrate excellent written and oral communication, including efficient use of cellular devices and email.
Alarms: Respond to all alarms and work with AIDB personnel, first responders and technicians to reach a resolution.
Enforcement: Maintain and enforce traffic and parking regulations on AIDB properties. Respond to all security needs on AIDB campuses & properties. Handle incidents in a professional and appropriate manner demonstrating sound judgement and decorum.
Facility & Fleet Support
Maintenance Liaison: Answer maintenance calls, assess situations, and notify appropriate on-call personnel or create work orders.
Vehicle Readiness: Work with the Lead Security Guard to ensure security vehicles are maintained, including inspections, oil changes, and cleaning.
Emergency Drills: Attend and participate in all Campus Safety and Security drills conducted at AIDB facilities.
Abilities and Certifications
Sign Language Proficiency: Obtain a sign language proficiency level of SURVIVAL within 12 months and SURVIVAL PLUS within 36 months of employment according to AIDB evaluation system.
Policy Adherence: Maintain thorough knowledge of all AIDB rules and emergency procedures, ensuring consistent enforcement of campus policies.

Level 1: $15.69 - $18.30 per hour Scale C5 Rank 32
Level 2: $16.33 - $19.27 per hour Scale C5 Rank 34
Level 3: $18.02 - $21.43 per hour Scale C5 Rank 38
**Night Shift differential pay of $.50 per hours for any hours worked between 10pm – 6am**
260 days
