Job Description - Security Officer

Company: Ocean Hotels Barbados



DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:




    Service Efficiency



    1. Reports to the Senior Security Supervisor, Health, Safety, Security & Environmental Manager, Group Safety & Security Officer (or the Duty Manager for instructions in the absence of the previously mentioned).

    2. Attends work at times set out on the duty roster and makes the necessary entries in ALL Logbooks where appropriate.

    3. Observe, document and report any person or persons acting suspiciously or loitering on the hotel's property. If any doubts exist, officers must contact the GSS and notify the Police.

    4. Security Officers must advise persons against using any unauthorised or restricted areas on the property. However, Officers must remain mindful of our company standards and policies, thus completing such action courteously and professionally. 

    5. Detains any persons or team members who commit an unlawful or illegal activity on company premises. Such action can also be required if a person poses a threat to themself or a team member.

    6. Reports damages of the company's property to the Group Safety and Security Officer, Duty Manager and or General Manager.

    7. Read and Record All relevant meters on property.

    8. Ensures that all relevant lights are turned on and off at the required time. Officers also report any defective lighting or pipes to the Maintenance Department before reporting the matter to the GSS.

    9. Records all car registration numbers and visitor names coming on property in the appropriate Logbook. (where applicable)

      1. Logs any food items brought on the property by staff members,

        1. Issue employees with the appropriate declaration forms and gate passes.    

        2. Checks Gate passes for authorisation for all items going off the property.



      2. Checks bags and vehicles of team members when leaving the property, including Management (where applicable).



    10. Monitor Security Cameras. 

    11. Extensively Patrol hotel property both internally and externally. 

    12. Makes random checks of off site properties (Where applicable e.g. Corporate Office, Glendale and Staff Parking).

    13. Monitor and Account for ALL persons entering and leaving the property.

    14. Assists guests with luggage to and from their rooms when other team members (bellmen) are unavailable.

    15. Performs any other reasonable, ancillary or job-related duties as may be assigned by Management.

    16. Escort guests to or from their rooms when necessary. I.e. If a guest is intoxicated or injured.  



    Emotional Intelligence



    1. Assists and de-escalate situations involving persons who violate any hotel codes of conduct. This task may dictate that officers escort such guests to their rooms or off the property.  

    2. Reports and provide follow-ups about any threats or actual acts of physical violence.

    3. NOTE: It is against company policy to initiate physical violence against any person under any circumstances. However, if a situation requires force, it must come as an act of self-defense and must not exceed restraining measures. 

    4. Reports all incidents of theft to the General Manager and the GSS; if necessary, either one will notify the Police. Should a guest decline to report a theft, the said guest must submit a report clearly stating this fact. In addition, the security officer handling the matter must also produce a report on the incident. (A copy of both records must go on the company's file)

    5. Officers must adhere to all company policies, standards and procedures. These include but are not limited to; Health and Safety, Fire Prevention, Hygiene and Discipline Policies.

    6. Officers must make prompt spot decisions capable of saving or protecting guests, colleagues and ultimately Ocean Hotels Barbados Inc. 

    7. Possess and practise their interpersonal skills to ensure that our service or reputation do not falter. 

    8. Effectively communicate with guests, potential guests, public members, team members and management. This requirement includes both written and verbal communication. 

    9. Behave and present oneself in a courteous and professional manner; being polite, well-dressed, well-groomed and approachable. 

    10.  Produce quality work in a demanding work environment when faced with unforeseen, unpredictable new challenges.  



    Training and Development



    1.  Attend training courses and team bonding activities as agreed with Management.

    2. Demonstrates by example the culture of Customer Service Plus daily and attends weekly Manager's Cocktail Party whenever possible.

    3. To actively participate in an evaluation of your performance by means of an appraisal with your leadership team. In order to correct weaknesses, encourage strengths and work to achieve personal and professional goals.

    4. To thoroughly review and understand the information contained within the Ocean Hotels Employee handbook since as an employee of Ocean Hotels Barbados, you are governed by the rules and stipulations contained within.

    5. To attend and participate in any training programs as directed by the HR team and your manager or supervisor.



    REQUIREMENTS



    1. Level 2 or above National Vocational Qualification in Providing Security Services

    2. Valid police certificate of character

    3. Valid Security License

    4. Experience in the security forces would be an asset
