Job Description - Security Officer: Downtown Office Building
The Security Officer is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for employees, visitors, clients, and property by performing assigned security duties, enforcing site policies, and responding to incidents in a professional and timely manner. This role requires strong observation skills, sound judgment, professionalism, and the ability to respond calmly and effectively in routine and emergency situations.
This position is located in downtown Anchorage, Alaska with a rotational schedule (1 week on / 1 week off).
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
High School diploma or GED
1 year of relevant experience in law enforcement, military police, corrections, or private security
Valid driver’s license
Alaska State Unarmed Security Officer License or able to obtain upon hire
Knowledge of security operations, emergency response procedures, and report writing
Strong communication, decision-making, and conflict-resolution skills
Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions under pressure
Basic computer skills and ability to operate security systems and reporting tools
Demonstrated reliability, professionalism, and integrity
Must be able to pass the Company’s pre-employment screening process, including drug screen, criminal background investigation, and post-offer physical/fitness for duty evaluation.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Follows all company and client policies, safety standards, and post orders at all times.
Enforces company rules, client policies, and applicable laws in a professional manner.
Provides excellent customer service by assisting employees, visitors, and vendors while maintaining a security presence.
Patrols assigned areas on foot or by vehicle to monitor for safety hazards, security breaches, and suspicious activity.
Monitors surveillance systems, alarms, and access control systems; respond promptly to irregularities.
Prepares accurate, detailed, and timely incident reports, daily activity logs, and shift documentation.
Responds to emergencies including medical incidents, fire alarms, disturbances, and safety hazards in accordance with established procedures.
May perform searches of people, vehicles, vessels, buildings and large outdoor areas.
Guards property against damage, trespassing, unauthorized entry, theft, assault, vandalism, harassment, and other disruptive incidents from occurring.
Conducts inspections of assigned building(s) and grounds, examining doors, windows, gates and other security equipment to ensure proper function.
Coordinate with supervisors, emergency responders, and law enforcement when necessary.
Reports all accidents and injuries in a timely manner.
Works in a constant state of alertness in a safe manner
Safely operates a motor vehicle in a variety of settings, day and night and during varying weather conditions.
De-escalates conflicts and maintains order while using sound judgment and professionalism.
Participates in regular safety meetings, safety training and hazard assessments.
Maintains punctuality, reliability, and consistent attendance
Adheres to company established dress code requirements
Attends *paid* training programs (classroom and virtual) as designated
Maintains confidentiality of sensitive information and security matters.
May perform responsibilities of Sr. Security Officer or Sergeant in their absence.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT
The majority of work is performed in an urban commercial office building with a wide variety of people with differing functions, personalities and abilities. May work indoors and outdoors depending on assignment.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during long shifts.
Ability to patrol indoor and outdoor environments in varying weather conditions.
Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 lbs occasionally.
Ability to bend, kneel, climb stairs, and perform repetitive movements as needed.
Sufficient vision and hearing to observe and respond to the environment.
Candidate/incumbent will be required to successfully complete a post-offer pre-hire physical and functional capacity exam (FCE).
