Job Description - Security Supervisor

Company: Ocean Hotels Barbados




RESPONSIBILITIES



Operational 




  • Attends work at times set on the duty roster and reviews All Logbooks where appropriate.

  • Keep under observation any person acting in a suspicious manner or loitering.

  • Monitors any person attempting to use an unauthorized or restricted area of the facility should be advised accordingly, making sure that they leave the area. In keeping with company policy, this should always be done courteously.

  • May be called upon by the hotel management to assist in persuading any person who breaks the hotel code conduct to leave the premises or in some cases return guests to their rooms. 

  • May be called upon to detain any person who commits an unlawful or illegal act on company premises.

  • Attend and assist in any situation that may result in the threat of physical violence.

  • Reports any damage to company property to the General Manager, HSSE manager, GSS officer and the Duty Manager.

  • Responsible for ensuring that all relevant lights are turned on in the evening.   Reports to Maintenance any faulty or defective lighting.

  • Reports all thefts to the General Manager and the Health & Safety Manager before notifying the police.   In the event that the guest does not want to report the theft, the said guest will submit a report to state that fact. Copy to be kept on file. An internal report must also be written by Security for our files.

  • Prepares a weekly report to be submitted to the HSSE manager and GSS officer.

  • Conducts random inspection of Security Officers during the night.

  • Conduct random checks of both staff and lockers.

  • Covers shifts when necessary to ensure that the department continues to run smoothly.

  • Ensure that department cost is kept at a minimum. 

  • Review/prepare the weekly roster to ensure that shifts are adequately covered, being mindful of operational cost.

  • Ensures guards register all incoming persons who are non-resident guests or staff as to their reason for visiting.

  • Registers car numbers and visitor names in property’s Logbook.

  • Logs any food items brought on property by staff members, i.e. bag of produce from supermarkets and issues employee declaration forms and gate passes.    

  • Checks Gate passes for proper authorisation for all items going off property.

  • Checks bags and vehicles of departing staff including management.

  • Adheres to company policies, standards and procedures, including Health and Safety, Fire Prevention, Hygiene and Discipline.

  • Performs any other reasonable, ancillary and/or job-related duties as may be     assigned by Management.

  •  Attend training courses as agreed with Management.

  • Demonstrates by example, the culture of Customer Service Plus on a daily basis and attends weekly Manager’s Cocktail Party whenever possible.

  • May be required to work Duty Manager Shift if needed.





NOTE: It is against company policy to initiate physical violence against any person under any circumstances.   If force is required as a means of defense, it should be restricted to restraining rather than combating. 



People Management 




  • Assist the Health, Safety, Security & Environmental Manager with managing, motivating and monitoring the performance of all team members

  • Actively participates in the recruitment process for the department by identifying staffing needs and shorting potential candidates by utilising the company’s HRIS (BambooHR).

  • When required, conducts candidate interviews as required, and informs the human resources team and the Health, Safety, Security & Environmental Manager of successful candidates in a timely manner.

  • Identifies candidates that are not performing to the expected standards of the company and recommend what steps should be taken.

  • In collaboration with Health, Safety, Security & Environmental Manager, managing the performance management process within the department by providing continuous and constructive feedback, keeping communication lines open, providing clarification of expectations and identifying areas for improvement.

  • To ensure that department goals are clear and in alignment with company objectives, AAA 5 Diamond standards and LQA Benchmark standards, and shared with staff to maximize on performance expectations.

  • Actively coaches staff to unlock team member’s potential and growth, help them to develop new skills and to aid in promoting individual responsibility.

  • Conduct annual performance appraisals for department staff, ensuring that the process is fair, free of biases, accurate, and promotes the overall purpose of the performance management system.

  • Able to access and identify department conflicts and infractions against company policies / procedures, and understands how, when, and what form of disciplinary action should be taken.

  • Plan and execute frequent team building activities, in an effort to maintain the momentum and productivity of all staff within the department.



Training and Development




  • In collaboration with the Health, Safety, Security & Environmental Manager, managing all aspects of Training and Development and Talent Management to maximize on staff, personal and professional growth, in accordance with company’s Human Resources - Training and Culture Development team initiatives and to agreed AAA 5 Diamond standards and LQA Benchmark standards.

  • Identifies and conducts assessments to determine what training needs are required for staff within the department to increase job knowledge.

  • Recommends and assists with the creation and implementation of training plans, based on assessments for the group

  • Liaise with the Human Resources - Training and Culture Development team to support the department’s development objectives and ensure that supervisors and staff are equipped with the necessary tools and materials to effectively execute their daily tasks.

  • To carry out or ensure that regular On-the-Job training is taking place to align with the AAA 5 Diamond standards and LQA Benchmark standards.



KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES



Knowledge



The Senior Security Supervisor must have proficient knowledge in the following areas:




  • Secondary school education with at least four CXC passes in English A and Mathematics


  • Level 2 or above National Vocational Qualification in Providing Security Services

  • Must understand and be able to effectively and efficiently carry out all tasks in accordance with the AAA 5 Diamond standards and LQA Benchmark standards


  • At least 2 years of previous security experience would be an asset


  • Valid police certificate of character


  • Valid Security License

The Senior Security Supervisor must demonstrate the following skills:

  • Ability to communicate excellently either orally or in writing, to be able to effectively pass health and safety tips to colleagues and subordinates
