Semi Trailer Mechanic

In this role, the successful candidate will be responsible for the maintenance and repair of semi-trailers for a small, independent private fleet, along with some third-party service coordination. This is a hands-on role requiring experience specifically with trailer systems. Must be a self-starter with the ability to work independently and problem-solve effectively.

Responsibilities

• Perform repairs on semi-trailers, including floors, doors, panels, roofs, suspension, and frame components.


• Service and repair air systems, air brakes, and landing gear.


• Repair trailer lighting and electrical systems.


• Perform trailer interior and exterior repairs.


• Conduct regular DOT inspections and preventative maintenance.


• Diagnose mechanical issues accurately and implement effective solutions.


• Maintain accurate records of repairs, maintenance schedules, and parts inventory.


• Maintain parts inventory and ensure cleanliness and organization in the shop.


• Collaborate with team to diagnose problems and plan repair schedules.


• Move equipment in and out of the shop as needed.


• Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned.

Qualifications

• Valid Driver's License REQUIRED.


• Class A CDL is preferred. Company may assist in obtaining within 180 days of hire if desired.


• High School Diploma or GED REQUIRED


• Prior hands-on experience repairing semi-trailers REQUIRED.


• Must have own tools and be willing to purchase tools required for the job.


• Ability to diagnose issues accurately and implement effective solutions.


• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality work.


• Familiarity with DOT compliance requirements.


• Must meet qualifications to perform DOT annual trailer inspections and brake inspections per 49 CFR 396 Appendix G and 49 CFR 396.25, or be willing to complete necessary training to do so.


• Welding experience is a plus.


• Diesel engine knowledge is a bonus, but not required for this role.
