Job Description - Senior Accountant

MotivHealth is an innovative health insurance company dedicated to making high-quality healthcare more affordable. We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join our finance team. The Senior Accountant is responsible for maintaining the accuracy and integrity of the company's financial records, preparing financial reports, assisting with month-end and year-end close processes, and ensuring compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Statutory Accounting (STAT). The ideal candidate is a proactive problem solver with strong analytical skills, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively across departments.


 


HOW YOU’LL MAKE AN IMPACT:



  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual GAAP and STAT financial statements.

  • Lead the month-end and year-end close process, including journal entries and reconciliations.

  • Perform balance sheet reconciliations and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.

  • Maintain the general ledger and ensure the accuracy of financial transactions.

  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities.

  • Prepare supporting schedules for internal and external STAT and GAAP audits and coordinate audit requests.

  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, internal controls, and company accounting policies.

  • Assist with STAT regulatory reporting.

  • Support process improvements by identifying opportunities to streamline accounting procedures and increase efficiency.

  • Mentor and provide guidance to junior accounting staff.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support business initiatives and financial reporting needs.

  • Assist with special projects and other accounting duties as assigned.



  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all recruitment-related inquiries across the company



WHAT YOU BRING:



  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.

  • 4 + years of progressive accounting experience.

  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting principles.

  • Experience with STAT reporting is preferred.

  • Experience with general ledger accounting, account reconciliations, and financial statement preparation.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel

  • Experience using ERP, experience in NetSuite and Sage a plus.

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to prioritize multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license preferred.

  • Public accounting experience is a plus.
