Job Description - Senior Accountant

About Utah Partners for Health (UPFH)

At UPFH, we believe healthcare is a fundamental right. As a non-profit, Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), we provide comprehensive care across a dedicated local clinic network. Combining medical, dental and behavioral health clinics with a pharmacy, we're able to treat the whole patient. Together, our multi-site system delivers high-quality, compassionate care to underserved populations across Utah.

Utah Partners for Health is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Senior Accountant to support the accuracy, integrity, and timely reporting of the organization’s financial information. Reporting to the CFO, this position will play a key role in monthly close, general ledger accounting, reconciliations, grant and program accounting, payroll review, financial reporting, and audit support.

As a Senior Accountant, you will combine strong technical accounting skills with a hands-on, problem-solving approach and an interest in supporting UPFH’s mission of expanding access to quality healthcare services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and post monthly journal entries, accruals, allocations, and account corrections.
  • Perform monthly balance-sheet, bank, investment, payroll, accounts receivable, and other general ledger reconciliations.
  • Support the monthly and annual financial close processes and ensure reporting deadlines are met.
  • Maintain accurate accounting by program, department, grant, funding source, and QuickBooks class.
  • Assist with grant accounting, restricted-fund tracking, draw support, and compliance reporting.
  • Review payroll registers, benefit expenses, accounts payable activity, and revenue transactions for completeness and accuracy.
  • Account for donated services, in-kind contributions, fixed assets, depreciation, prepaid expenses, and other recurring activities.
  • Prepare financial schedules, variance analyses, and management reporting for the CFO and organizational leadership.
  • Support the annual financial statement audit, tax filings, and other external reporting requirements.
  • Help strengthen accounting procedures, internal controls, documentation, and month-end close processes.
  • Provide accounting support to operational leaders and assist with special projects as needed.

Success in This Role

The successful Senior Accountant will produce accurate and well-supported financial records, improve the efficiency of the monthly close, identify issues before they affect reporting, and serve as a dependable accounting partner to the CFO and UPFH leadership team.

Requirements

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
  • Minimum of three to five years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP, general ledger accounting, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
  • Nonprofit, healthcare, grant-funded, or federally funded accounting experience strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency with QuickBooks and Microsoft Excel; QuickBooks Desktop experience preferred.
  • CPA or CPA candidate preferred but not required.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, judgment, and ability to meet recurring deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate financial information clearly and work collaboratively across departments.
