POSITION OVERVIEW

The Senior Accountant will be a key member of Northstar’s accounting team, responsible for accurate financial reporting, construction-specific accounting practices, and process improvement initiatives. This role requires direct experience in the commercial construction industry, particularly with job costing, WIP reporting, and AIA billing. The Senior Accountant will work closely with the leadership to implement standardized processes, strengthen financial systems, and build an accounting function that supports Northstar’s next stage of growth.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Core Accounting & Reporting

• Establish standardized month-end close procedures with a 5-day close timeline.


• Deliver clean, audit-ready financial statements and support accurate forecasting.


• Prepare timely financial reports, including P&L, Balance Sheet, and cash flow statements.


• Perform reconciliations, journal entries, and general ledger oversight.

Construction Accounting

• Implement a job costing dashboard for accurate, real-time project tracking.


• Manage job cost accounting, ensuring cost codes, commitments, and change orders are accurate.


• Support preparation of Work-in-Progress (WIP) reports and monthly project forecasts.


• Oversee AIA billing, subcontractor invoicing, retainage, and lien waiver processes.


• Partner with Project Managers to reconcile budgets and maintain job cost integrity.

Team Development & Process Improvement

• Build and mentor a fully trained AP/AR team capable of independently managing daily functions.


• Identify and implement process improvements to streamline workflows and increase efficiency.


• Collaborate cross-functionally with operations teams to align financial and project objectives.


• Contribute to financial dashboards and KPIs that provide actionable insights for leadership.

Culture & Leadership

• Lead with integrity, accountability, and transparency in all financial practices.


• Provide clear communication and support across departments to ensure financial clarity.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Construction industry accounting experience required, including job costing and WIP reporting.


• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience in commercial construction.


• Proficiency in construction accounting software; experience with Deltek ComputerEase strongly preferred.


• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.


• Demonstrated ability to implement process improvements and streamline workflows.


• Excellent communication and leadership skills with a hands-on, team-oriented approach.


• Strong problem-solving skills with a high level of integrity and accountability.
